"Don't ask me. Ask her if she feels any remorse for ruining people's lives," Alaina fired back, her voice thick with righteous fury.
Ethan reached up to massage his stinging cheek, letting out a cold scoff. "Lily practically begged Julian to personally withdraw the charges against you, and this is how you repay her?"
Ruining someone's life and then playing the savior?
Alaina knitted her brows, locking eyes with Lily in a silent, freezing standoff.
"Apologize to Lily," Ethan bellowed. "Right now."
Alaina ground her teeth. "Never going to happen."
"I didn't know hallucinations happened in broad daylight," Logan stepped in, shielding Alaina behind his back. "Playing the victim right outside the police station. What a shameless performance."
Ethan glared ruthlessly at Logan. "What gives you the right to speak to me?"
Logan shot him a sarcastic, mocking grin. "Oh, quite the big shot, aren't we? But I've had my rabies shots, so do you really think your barking scares me?"
"..." Ethan was taken aback. "What did you just say?"
Logan kept smiling. He looked at Ethan, then at Lily, before turning back to Alaina. "I told you from the start not to force things when it's not a fit. Look how perfect those two are for each other. Cupid really did us all a favor by keeping the trash in the same bin."
"You..." Lily stuttered, entirely speechless.
"You what?" Logan pressed on with relentless firepower. "No wonder you wear your makeup so thick—you need it to hide how incredibly thick-skinned you are. Ah, let me guess. You're definitely getting up there in age, otherwise you wouldn't be playing the pathetic victim so naturally."
"I'm going to sue you for defamation!" Lily shrieked, her face contorting with rage as she completely abandoned her elegant facade.
"Then hurry up and file the paperwork," Logan replied, utterly unfazed. "I'll be waiting."
Lily: "..."
Ethan wrapped his arm around Lily. "Don't stoop to his level. When you encounter a rabid dog, you just walk away."
He turned his focus back to Alaina. "Alaina, you have truly disappointed me. And to think I actually believed you were innocent, that I actually begged Lily to help save you."
