The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 47

Both women froze, entirely blindsided by his statement.

"What are you talking about?" old Mrs. Harrington's eyes went wide. "Didn't you two already go to the lawyer's office?"

Ethan simply replied, "The point is, Alaina won't divorce me, and I won't divorce her."

"Ethan, I don't care if you're telling the truth or lying right now. Alaina is the only daughter-in-law I will ever accept. If you don't win her back, you are no longer my son," Mrs. Harrington declared fiercely before turning and marching up the stairs without a backward glance.

"Ethan..." old Mrs. Harrington started, desperate to change his mind.

Ethan raised a hand to silence her. "I know how much you adore Lily, Grandma, but it's just not meant to be between us."

He wrapped an arm around the elderly woman, trying to soothe her. "You have to help me out here. Alaina is incredibly jealous of Lily. You need to tone down your favoritism when she's around."

"Once Alaina calms down, we'll give you a beautiful great-grandchild. How does that sound?"

His grandmother forced a highly unconvincing smile.

The second she retreated to her room, she had a maid call Harvey Fletcher.

After listening to her demands, the lawyer hesitated. "Mrs. Harrington, you're putting me in an incredibly difficult position."

"Nonsense. I'll take full responsibility," she chuckled darkly. "We need to buy enough time to convince his mother to change her mind, and the divorce proceedings need to move forward regardless. It's just an added layer of insurance."

"Besides, you've always been more than happy to help Lily. We will both remember this favor, and I assure you, it will be very beneficial to your career moving forward."

Hanging up, she whispered a few instructions to the elderly maid standing by her side.

"Are you absolutely certain about this?" the maid asked nervously.

"While I still have breath in my lungs, I am going to pave the perfect road for my grandson," old Mrs. Harrington said with absolute conviction. "Look at what Lily can bring to the table versus what that country bumpkin offers. Any idiot knows the right choice."

The maid nodded eagerly. "I heard Lily's adoptive father was just promoted to Director of The Security Administration. His political future is limitless. If our family secures a marriage tie with him, we'll be untouchable in Capital City."

"Silas Summers is far more than just a rising politician. Everyone in this city knows how ruthless he can be," the old woman noted, her voice edged with genuine fear. "My biggest fear is that if Lily ever holds a grudge against Ethan, Silas has the power to bury this entire family alongside him."
