Ethan could practically feel the heat of her fury. Suppressing his own irritation, he said softly, "You've been through a massive shock and you look incredibly weak. Let me drive you home once you've recovered a bit."
He reached out to pull her into a comforting embrace.
She viciously swatted his hand away. "Save your fake sympathy."
"Alaina, you..." Ethan gritted his teeth, glaring at her as he struggled to bite back his temper.
"You tell Lily Summers that whatever she did to my friend today, I will make her pay back tenfold," Alaina spat, mustering every ounce of her remaining strength to push past him.
Ethan yanked her back, pinning her shoulders tightly against the wall to keep her from leaving.
"Logan brought this on himself with his disgusting behavior! What does that have to do with Lily?" Ethan exploded, his grip tightening as he backed her further into the corner. "The proof is right in front of you. You literally just got drenched in dirty water because of him, and you still can't see the truth? You're still defending him?"
The back of Alaina's head struck the wall, and she winced in sharp pain.
She gasped for air but locked eyes with him, her gaze defiant. "The ones throwing the dirty water are the truly filthy ones."
Ethan pressed his lips into a hard line, his shoulders trembling with unbridled jealousy. "Is he really that important to you?"
"You should know better than anyone how important childhood sweethearts are," she replied in a low, biting tone. "Don't pretend you don't know the true character of the person you grew up with."
Hearing that, Ethan froze.
A second later, he released his grip. "This ends here. Consider this payback for the time you misunderstood her. We're even."
Alaina furrowed her brow and let out a cold laugh. Even, what a joke.
She turned to walk out, only to be yanked backward once more.
"Don't go near him again. Use this chance to cut all ties with him, do you hear me?" Ethan shouted, his patience entirely evaporated.
