The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 97

The air in the room suddenly grew thick with silence.

Alaina found herself inexplicably holding her breath.

Silas's expression remained perfectly stoic. He lifted his glass, drained it in one smooth motion, and offered nothing but a heavy, unyielding silence in return.

Alaina's heart, which had been suspended in her throat, plummeted violently back into her chest.

She gave a self-deprecating smirk. What exactly was she expecting him to say?

"Hey, hey, hey, you can't play dirty just because you're the Director. You think you can drink yourself under the table to avoid answering?" Arthur protested loudly.

"Your whiskey is excellent," Silas replied, a faint, confident smirk finally breaking through his emotionless facade. "But it's not enough to get me drunk."

"Is that a fact?" Arthur narrowed his eyes in challenge. "Then stand up and walk a straight line."

Alaina quickly hurried over. "Dad, it's getting late. We really should be heading back."

She leaned down and shot Silas a pointed look. "Let's go."

Silas glanced at his watch, pushed himself up from the chair, and instantly swayed on his feet.

Alaina reached out, catching his arm. "Are you okay?"

Silas shook his head. His gaze was slowly losing its sharp focus, and his usually rigid, unbending spine slouched forward just a fraction.

The icy, untouchable aura he wore like armor had melted away, replaced by the hazy, sluggish vulnerability of a man drowning in alcohol.

Alaina realized immediately that they were in trouble.

Arthur triumphantly raised his hand and counted down from three.

Silas's body began to teeter, forcing him to slam a hand onto the edge of the table to keep from collapsing.

"Mr. Summers!" Zachary rushed out of the kitchen, seeing the disaster unfolding, and scrambled over to help.

Arthur tried to stand up, instantly swaying wildly. "Whoa, the room is spinning. Zachary, come help me!"
