Madonna blinked in surprise, then smiled warmly. “Rebecca, do you want to play? Whatever you choose is fine. Anything you play, I’ll love.”
Rebecca nodded and got up, heading for the piano with an easy confidence. She tossed a look over her shoulder at Paulina, who was still standing there, motionless. “What’s wrong? Suddenly hoping I won’t play after all?”
Paulina forced her expression into something calm and normal, taking a step aside. “Of course not.”
Rebecca slid onto the piano bench with effortless grace and let her fingers drift across the keys. Instantly, a deep and powerful melody filled the room, making everyone’s heart skip a beat.
You could tell right away—this wasn’t just anyone playing. Even if Fabian and the others didn’t know much about piano, they knew enough to be stunned. Paulina’s eyes went wide, her smile wobbling as she struggled to hide just how rattled she was.
The music wrapped around them, transporting everyone to someplace wild and ancient. It felt huge and endless, like being pulled out into a vast, peaceful world where time barely moved. For a moment, nothing else mattered.
When the last notes faded, no one moved. They just sat there, caught up in the afterglow, trying to catch their breath. Except for Paulina, who stared at Rebecca with disbelief and envy burning in her eyes.
How was this possible? All her life, Paulina thought Rebecca was just a nobody, someone who grew up with nothing, barely even went to school. And now... this?
Rebecca shot her a sideways glance, calm and aloof. Paulina ducked her head and forced a wobbly smile. “Wow, I never knew you were so talented. Who did you learn from? If I’d known you were this good, I wouldn’t have embarrassed myself before!”
Rebecca let her fingers drift lazily over the keys, smirking. “Isn’t this something anyone can do? Why bother with lessons?”
Paulina’s expression flickered, and she had to fight to keep her smile in place.
Randy whistled, giving Rebecca a huge thumbs up. “Okay, now I get it. There’s always someone out there who’s just better at everything!”
