The Coma Prince’s Fiancée novel Chapter 181

Gavin realized with sickening clarity that Garnett Michel had set a trap, waiting for him to dive headfirst into it.

A cold sweat broke out across his skin. His mind raced for an excuse, his gaze darting frantically around the room until it landed on the phone in the Dean's hand. A venomous glint flared in his eyes, and he suddenly lunged for it.

Noticing his sudden movement, the Dean immediately shoved Wade Lane behind him and barked, "Gavin, what the hell do you think you're doing?"

The other teachers reacted just as fast, stepping forward to form a human wall.

"Back off! Who told you to move?"

Failing to snatch the phone, Gavin masked the flash of resentment in his eyes and forced himself to look calm.

"Dean Ablitt, I didn't mean anything by it. I just wanted to see what Garnett actually recorded. I admit I went to Class F that night, but I never laid eyes on any sheet music."

The Dean didn't buy a single word. "Apex Academy requires special access. What business does a student from the general academic block have sneaking around there? Plus, the security footage clearly shows you lingering at Garnett's desk, rummaging through his things. The evidence is irrefutable. Stop making excuses!"

Pushed to the brink, Gavin’s brain desperately latched onto a loophole in the Dean's words. "You just said it looked like I was rummaging! That means Garnett didn't capture me actually taking anything. If you don't have solid proof, what right do you have to falsely accuse me? Go check the footage of me leaving the building and see if I carried anything out!"

He was so confident because he knew perfectly well he hadn't taken the physical papers with him.

Hearing his arrogant defense, Wade Lane's snowy brows furrowed deeply. It seemed this student was thoroughly convinced he could slither his way out of this.

The Dean caught the implication too and shot Garnett a look, signaling him to produce more evidence.

Garnett's face drained of color. He hadn't realized his carefully laid trap had missed such a crucial detail. He shook his head grimly at the Dean, a heavy dread settling in his stomach. If they couldn't nail Gavin right here and now, he and Rebecca would become the laughingstock of Vantage Point University. It was all his fault for not thinking it through. He had dragged Rebecca down with him.

"Hello? Yes, this is Garnett. What? Right now? Understood."

He shot a hesitant look at Wade Lane and the Dean before tapping the speaker button.

A crisp, professional woman's voice echoed from the device.

"Hello everyone, I am Susan, the agent for Stella. I apologize for not getting back to Garnett sooner; I just saw his message. On behalf of Stella, I officially authorize Garnett Michel to adapt her song.

"Furthermore, I've been made aware that another student at your university, Gavin, has uploaded an audio clip of this composition to social media, claiming it as his original work.

"I am formally issuing a warning to Gavin right now: you have exactly twenty-four hours to delete that audio and post a public clarification. Otherwise, we will unleash our legal team, and we will see you in court."
