The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 330

And I did some digging. This guy, Abraham Rodriguez, is definitely from Teafall Peaks.

His day job isluring naive young women back there.

Autumn understood what Owen was implying.

Teafall Peaks was most likely some desolate, uninhabited place deep in the mountains.

If anyone got curious about it, Abraham and his crew would be ready and waiting to take them back.

What about Abraham’s girlfriend?

She was tricked into going a long time ago. I had my people contact her family, but it seems like they don’t want to spend the time or energy looking for her.

Autumn was furious. How could they do that?

Once they have other kids, the one who disappeared becomes less important. More importantly, girls taken to a place like Teafall Peaks serve only one purpose.

If we actually managed to rescue her, what would happen to her child? Would she keep it or not?

Autumn fell silent.

When she found out her husband and stepsister had both betrayed her, Autumn felt like her life had hit rock

bottom.

But it was only now that she realized there were so many other people in the world who were truly trapped.

And she was incredibly lucky. She had the skills and resources to fight back, and she had met a good man.

Is there anything we can do?

Owen said, I’ve given the police a lead. How far they can get with itthat’s up to fate.

Teafall Peaks is just too remote and undeveloped. It’s hard to even get a car in there, which makes investigating and gathering evidence incredibly difficult. The biggest problem is that most of the people there are related one way or another. Unless you could figure out a way to take everyone down at once, trying to get even one person out would mean facing an attack from hundreds of them.

Just hearing him say it made Autumn’s skin crawl.

She couldn’t even begin to imagine the kind of torture people taken there must endure.

So, my momback then

Owen noticed Autumn was trembling and gently patted her back. Let’s not jump to conclusions. Your mom might not have ever been there. All we have right now are records; we don’t have any other evidence.

Right.

Autumn told herself not to get worked up over nothing.

I’ll keep following up on this. Do you want to rest a bit more, or head out?

The auction is about to start. Want to go see if there’s anything you like?

Autumn thought for a moment and decided to go out.

Let’s go.

They were here already; it didn’t feel right to just hide in the lounge the whole time.

Besides, she couldn’t just have Owen stay cooped up in the lounge with her.

If she did, all the people who had shown up just because they knew he was coming would probably hate her

for it.

Sure enough, the moment Autumn and Owen appeared, they drew the attention of nearly everyone in the

room.

People quickly swarmed over to surround Owen. He first helped Autumn to their seats, then moved off to the side to talk with the others so he wouldn’t disturb her.

A server brought Autumn some snacks and a glass of milk. She murmured her thanks and was about to take a sip when she caught someone staring at her out of the corner of her eye.

Autumn turned her head and met the woman’s gaze directly.

Mrs. Bennett.

Seeing she’d been noticed, the woman didn’t shy away and walked over confidently.

Autumn nodded at her. Hello.

Noticing the confusion in Autumn’s eyes, the woman introduced herself.

M

I’m the wife of Mr. Spencer, from the household goods company.

Autumn nodded in understanding. Hello, Mrs. Spencer.

Although Autumn rarely engaged in this kind of socialite chitchat, she wasn’t completely clueless about it.

She assumed Mrs. Spencer was trying to network with her to give her own husband a leg up, but unexpectedly, the woman changed the subject and started gushing about Owen.

Mr. Bennett is truly the most romantic man I’ve ever seen. I was at the party where he proposed to you, Mrs. Bennett. I was so moved, it brought me to tears.

Autumn smiled. Thank you. To be honest, I was a little surprised myself.

No one had told me about it beforehand.

Well, that’s what makes it a surprise, isn’t it?

Although, at the time

Mrs. Spencer remembered Mars Wright causing a scene and quickly changed the subject.

Well, Mrs. Bennett, it seems you’ve finally seen the clouds part and the sun shine through.

The smile on Autumn’s face faded slightly.

Normally, this would be the cue for the other person to

ay their goodbyes and leave.

But this Mrs. Spencer seemed completely incapable of reading the room, stubbornly staying put.

Autumn had no choice but to remain polite, though her expression grew increasingly distant.

Thankfully, Owen returned just then. Mrs. Spencer seemed intimidated by him and quickly excused herself with a Well, let’s chat again next time, before getting up and leaving.

Autumn breathed a sigh of relief.

Seeing her reaction, Owen chuckled. Not a fan?”

Autumn nodded. It’s hard to enjoy this kind of scene.

My face is stiff from all the smiling.

Next time, we’ll get a private suite.

Autumn’s eyes widened. They have private suites?

They do.

Owen said, I wanted you to experience the main floor for your first time, so I didn’t take you to one.

You can request private viewings of the items in the suites, but it’s a bit slower. You only see them after the bidding on the main floor is over.

Autumn understood immediately. So the people in the suites aren’t really there for the auction items, are they?

Owen gave Autumn a smiling glance. My wife is so smart.

Autumn didn’t say anything more.
