“Autumn, you’re far too humble! Everyone knows how fortunate you are. Just having you here today gives us
all bragging rights.”
Ella furrowed her brow.
Anyone with eyes could tell that Mrs. Taylor’s words were laced with flattery meant to undermine.
Clearly, she held some animosity toward Autumn.
Ella glanced at Autumn with concern.
She knew that this Mrs. Taylor was someone Autumn had carefully chosen as a potential contact, hoping for a pleasant and productive conversation.
Who could have guessed that at their very first meeting, Mrs. Taylor would so quickly reveal her true
intentions?
Autumn was puzzled. If Mrs. Taylor harbored such inexplicable hostility toward her, why had she invited her in the first place?
“Thank you for the compliment,” she replied, forcing a slight smile.
Since Mrs. Taylor clearly wasn’t here for genuine collaboration, Autumn decided she would just go through the motions and leave. After all, she was already here–turning around and walking out immediately would only give these people more ammunition to gossip about her and the Bennett family.
Mrs. Taylor seemed surprised by Autumn’s calm composure. Evidently, she had anticipated various reactions from Autumn, but not this one.
Autumn paid her no mind and glanced at Ella instead.
Ella immediately understood her cue and nodded.
Only then did Autumn follow Mrs. Taylor inside.
Most of the wealthy ladies and socialites present looked familiar–they had all attended the Bennett family’s banquets whenever possible.
Although Autumn couldn’t match all the names to faces yet, she recognized more than a few.
“Autumn, I’m so honored you could grace us with your presence today! Had I known, I would’ve invited my dear friend along. She admires you greatly and has always wanted to learn from you.”
Autumn raised an eyebrow. “Learn what?”
“Stream Cloud Tech has grown so impressively. She wanted to pick your brain. My friend has some spare funds and was thinking of starting a company for fun.”

Chapter 331
Autumn’s eye twitched slightly.
It was obvious that this woman also bore her ill will, belittling Stream Cloud Tech’s remarkable growth in
such a short time as mere “fun.”
Autumn smiled lightly. Seeing that no one here genuinely welcomed her, she dropped the pretense.
“There’s no real shortcut, to be honest. Before Owen and I got together, we struck a business deal–he invested in my company, and I gave him shares. If your friend wants to start a company, she could try a similar approach. After all, getting a man to fund it shouldn’t be too difficult, I imagine.”
The woman’s face instantly darkened.
Ella lowered her gaze, hiding the amusement in her eyes.
She had worried that Autumn might not be adept at navigating these social intricacies, but it turned out Autumn was far more capable than she’d assumed.
With those words, more than one person in the room visibly stiffened.
“Hahaha, who knew Autumn was such a lively character? I wish we’d invited you to our gatherings sooner!”
not like the rest of us. After all, she’s the one Mr. Mu threw a grand proposal banquet for–what a spectacle! We can’t just see someone like her whenever
we want.”
“Even if you’d invited her earlier, she might not have come. She’s
“True enough…”
Autumn’s earlier remark had clearly struck a nerve, and the thinly veiled sarcasm in the room grew thicker.
After listening for a while, Autumn understood–these women looked down on her.
They likely believed their own positions were earned either through family backing or their own capabilities, and they couldn’t stand the sight of a divorced woman like her marrying a top–tier magnate. Their jealousy was practically oozing out.
Autumn found it all utterly tedious.
Had she known these people would be so petty, she wouldn’t have come.
It seemed that having a conscience often brought more trouble.
She’d actually worried that declining too many invitations might offend them. Now it was clear that her presence was what truly made them uncomfortable–after all, her very existence reminded them that sheer luck could grant one everything.
Autumn couldn’t be bothered to explain how much she’d sacrificed to reach her current status.
Besides, genuine affection could never be won through calculation. These women had started from the
wrong premise yet still expected true love–wasn’t that laughable?
“I’ll be right back–just need to use the restroom.”
Unable to stomach their meaningless complaints any longer, Autumn exchanged a glance with Ella and
headed to the bathroom.
Ella followed closely behind.
The women watched the two leave, their smiles gradually fading.
“This Autumn is quite different from what I imagined.“.
They had expected Autumn to lose her temper, but she had shown remarkable restraint.
“Probably just putting on an act.”
These women were well–versed in dealing with mistresses and “goldfinches.” In their eyes, Autumn wasn’t much different–just luckier to have met an inexperienced Owen.
“If we’d known Owen was so easy to tie down, plenty would’ve thrown themselves at him long ago.”
One of the ladies chuckled.
“Throw themselves at him? Let me enlighten you–Autumn’s baby was conceived via IVF. She just got lucky, accidentally using Owen’s sample. That’s her ‘get–out–of–jail–free card.“”
“Oh? So she didn’t even have to sleep with him to secure her position?”
