THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1024

Charis stared at Caitlin, her eyes narrowed in triumph.

So what if she was Miss Gonzales? So what if she was a princess of the Richards family? Now she was nothing but a common thief, a disgrace that everyone would scorn.

Once Caitlin was branded a thief, she would bring shame upon both the Richards and Gonzales families.

The policewoman held up the necklace and looked at Caitlin. "Is this your bed?"

Anyone else would have been flustered under police questioning, but Caitlin remained calm. "Yes, this is my bed," she replied evenly, "but I didn't steal the necklace."

Charis's face contorted with rage as she pointed a finger at Caitlin. "You didn't steal it? Then who did? Did my necklace grow legs and walk over to your bed? No wonder you wouldn't let me check your stuff. You knew you were guilty! I can't believe the oh-so-proper Miss Gonzales is nothing but a thief!"

Norris immediately stepped in front of Caitlin, facing Charis. "That's absurd! My sister would never steal anything!"

When Caitlin was found, their mother and aunts had gifted her a treasure chest filled with priceless jewelry, each piece far more valuable than Charis's necklace. Caitlin never even showed them off, so why on earth would she steal a roommate's necklace? It was ridiculous. This was clearly a setup.

"Yes, stealing requires a motive," Charis sneered, her eyes full of scorn. "Freya Gonzales may not need the money, but who's to say she isn't some kind of psycho who gets a thrill from stealing? There are plenty of people like that in the world!" She looked at the four of them. "Nicolette, Yvette, Elsa, Gertrude—you're only defending her because she's Freya Gonzales and you want to suck up to her!"

If Caitlin wasn't Freya Gonzales, would they be so quick to jump to her defense? Especially Gertrude and Elsa—they probably knew Caitlin's true identity all along.

Disgusting. They were all a bunch of disgusting hypocrites. Birds of a feather.

"Do you really think there's no justice in this world?" Charis declared. "Even if she is Freya Gonzales, once she crosses a legal line, she has to be held accountable for her theft!"
