THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1120

Caitlin's message was clear, but Elsa, wrapped up in the emotions of a new romance, wasn't ready to hear it. People in love often see what they want to see, while those on the outside can spot the cold, calculated logic beneath the surface.

"Caitlin, are you making the same mistake as Gertrude? Are you getting him wrong too?" Elsa sighed. "My boyfriend is a really good person. I know that whole arranged marriage thing was offensive, but it was just his awkward way of joking. He was just trying to push for our marriage, to show me he wants me to be his wife and the mother of his children. He just loves me that much."

When you care deeply, you can lose your sense of judgment. When you're desperate, you don't think about the consequences. Xander himself probably hadn't realized that his off-the-cuff remark would provoke such a negative reaction from Caitlin and Gertrude. And now, Elsa felt the need to defend him.

"Pushing for marriage? Elsa, you're being too naive," Caitlin countered gently. "You say he wants to marry you, but has he actually proposed? You say he loves you, but what has he ever done for you?"

Caitlin paused for a moment before continuing. "Elsa, let me ask you one question. Since you've been together, what's the most expensive gift he's ever given you?"

Elsa froze for a second before answering, "Well, he hasn't given me anything too expensive, but for my birthday, he gave me a scarf that he knitted himself." She made sure to emphasize the words "knitted himself."

A scarf?

"It's not a stupid scarf," Elsa protested, trying to defend Xander. "He knitted it himself. I don't care about the money; I care about the sincerity. Don't you think it's romantic for a grown man to knit a scarf for his girlfriend as a gift?"

How many men would do something like that these days? Practically none! But Xander had. At that moment, receiving the scarf, Elsa had been moved beyond words.

Gertrude cut her off. "Elsa, stop deluding yourself. Are you even sure he knitted it himself? For all you know, he bought it for five bucks off some cheap website! A guy like him, if he had actually knitted it, he would have sent you a video of himself doing it as proof. Did he send you a video?"
