THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1137

Elsa knew Xander loved her, but she'd never imagined he'd go this far for her. What other man would do something like this? He was even starting the wedding toasts with her family, just to show how much he valued her.

Xander looked at Elsa, his eyes filled with adoration. "From today on, you're my wife. Who else would I treat this well?"

Elsa nodded. "Then let's go. Let's start the toasts."

Xander followed close behind her.

Naturally, the first toast was to her parents. Seeing Xander begin with them, Elsa's parents looked at Xander with clear satisfaction.

After making their way through a few tables, Xander still hadn't seen Caitlin. He narrowed his eyes and asked, "Honey, how come I haven't seen Miss Kensington or Miss Gertrude today?"

Elsa seemed surprised by the question. She paused for a moment before replying, "Oh, they didn't come."

DIDN'T COME?

Xander's heart lurched. "Why not?" he asked, his voice tight with anxiety. "Aren't they your best friends?"

Best friends? Hearing that, an unreadable expression crossed Elsa's face. Perhaps, all these years, she had been the only one foolishly thinking of them as best friends. Caitlin and Gertrude had never felt the same way. Otherwise, why would they not even show up to her wedding? Yes, they had a falling out, but if Caitlin and Gertrude had any intention of mending their friendship, they would have at least sent a wedding gift.

She remembered when Gertrude got married, Caitlin had gifted her a three-bedroom condo in a prime school district. But when it was her turn… Caitlin not only failed to give her a property as a gift, but she didn't even bother to show her face. It was clear now. Caitlin had never considered her a friend. In Caitlin's world, she was just a background character, an accessory to highlight her own glamorous, high-society life. Caitlin never had any intention of saving their friendship.

Elsa sighed. "I… we had a falling out. We're not friends anymore."

A falling out? Xander froze. He never expected to hear those words from Elsa. But he forced himself to stay calm, to not let her see any hint of his true feelings.

"Honey, are you joking? The three of you were so close. How could you just stop being friends like that?"

No. It couldn't be. Someone with Caitlin's status was a once-in-a-lifetime connection for an ordinary person. And Elsa was as ordinary as they came. So, Elsa had to be lying to him. There was no way she would break things off with Caitlin.

Elsa looked up at Xander, her expression serious. "I'm not joking. It's real."
