Caitlin was speechless. She had no idea where her two little boys got their obsession with money.

Just then, Gemma accidentally dropped a chicken drumstick on the floor. As she bent down to pick it up, Beatrice said, "Gemma, sweetie, it's dirty now that it's on the floor. Don't pick it up. Grandma will get you a new one."

"Was'e!" Jasper walked over, picked up the dropped drumstick, and declared, "'Spensive!"

With that, he scurried off with the drumstick in hand.

"Jasper, where are you going?" Caitlin called after him.

Beatrice shook her head with a helpless smile. "It's obvious. Jasper is taking the drumstick to Monday. That boy is the spitting image of Gordon when he was little!"

"How so?" Caitlin asked.

Beatrice laughed. "He's just as stingy."

She leaned in and added, "Catie, haven't you noticed? Gordon is actually quite the penny-pincher. Remember when he let Skyler borrow his car? He only covered the first twenty miles or so. Anything over that, and Skyler had to pay for the gas himself!"

Caitlin was stunned; she had never noticed that. "Really, Mom? You're not joking, are you?"

"Of course it's true," Beatrice whispered. "Though, I will say, he seems to have gotten a lot better since he married you."

However, while Gordon might have improved, his two sons had inherited his old habits. The power of genetics was truly undeniable.
