The sound of high heels grew closer, and Xander's anticipation mounted. Here she comes. She's finally here! No one could understand how thrilled he was at this moment.
But just as Xander was waiting for Caitlin to speak, the sound of the high heels walked right past him.
Xander froze. What was going on? Why did she walk past?
Before he could process it, Elsa's voice broke through his thoughts. "Honey, why are you still standing? Sit down! The food will be here soon."
Xander snapped back to reality and looked in the direction the footsteps had gone. He saw a woman in a business suit with short hair walking away. It wasn't Caitlin. Why wasn't it Caitlin? If she wasn't coming, did that mean he had bought these flowers for nothing?
The disappointment hit Xander like a punch.
Seeing him just standing there, Elsa put the flowers on the empty chair beside her and asked with concern, "Honey, what's wrong? Are you not feeling well?"
"Oh, no, I'm fine," Xander forced a smile. "I was just worried about whether you'd like the flowers I got you."
