THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1225

Lanny's voice cut in. "Mr. Summers, The doctor said Elton has a severe brain bleed. He can't respond to you right now."

"The most important thing is to wire the surgery fee immediately. Otherwise, the doctor said… he could stop breathing at any moment."

Stop breathing?

The words hit Chad Summers harder than any physical blow. "The driver who hit him! Where is he?" he demanded. "He did this to Elton, isn't he paying a single cent?"

Elton's education abroad had been expensive. They only had about two hundred thousand dollars in savings, nowhere near the half-million they needed.

"Elton was riding his motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail himself," Lanny explained. "There was no other driver involved."

He crashed himself?

For his parents, it felt as though the sky had fallen.

Elton had always enjoyed riding motorcycles, even back home, but he was a careful kid. He would never have been so reckless as to crash into a guardrail.

"Someone must have tried to hurt him!" Mrs. Summers sobbed. "Lanny, did you call the police? Are there any surveillance cameras? We need to see the footage!"

"There are cameras," Lanny confirmed. "Mr. and Mrs. Summers, I'll send you the footage on WhatsApp in a moment. But right now, the most critical thing is to gather the money for the surgery. That's the only way they'll operate on Elton."

"Can they do the surgery first and we pay later?" Mr. Summers asked desperately.

"No," Lanny shook his head. "This isn't like back home. Here, if you're short even by a single dollar, the hospital won't perform the surgery."

As the words sank in, Mrs. Summers fainted.

"Mrs. Summers!"

"I'm sorry, sir, but I'm very busy," the doctor said, handing the phone back to Lanny.

Lanny took the phone, his voice filled with despair. "Mr. Summers, you heard him. There's really nothing I can do…"

Mr. Summers had no choice but to hang up and continue his desperate search for money. In just a few hours, he and his wife seemed to have aged a decade.

Their son's condition was critical. Every second they wasted was a threat to his life.

After running around all day, they finally managed to collect the remaining two hundred thousand dollars. He immediately called Lanny. "Lanny, we have it! We have the full half-million for the surgery! We've already wired it to Elton's account. Please, tell the doctors to start the operation right away."

There was a moment of silence on the other end, then Lanny spoke, his voice heavy. "Mr. and Mrs. Summers… I… I was just about to call you."

"Because he missed the optimal window for treatment… Elton… he passed away. One minute ago."
