THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 965

The other three looked as if they'd been hit by a frost, their faces falling.

It was over. Now all the money would go to that lucky bastard Sloan.

Seeing his nephews' disappointed expressions, Keeley assumed they were simply heartbroken at not having won the right to care for him.

He looked at them and offered some comfort. "Don't you three be discouraged. I'll only be at Sloan's for six months. After that, we'll draw lots again, and it will be one of your turns."

Sloan, fearing the others might try to steal Keeley away, had his wife, Hazel, join him in linking arms with Keeley, one on each side. "Uncle Keeley, don't mind them. I've already told Hazel to go home and start making your favorite beef stew."

For the next three days, Keeley was treated like an emperor at Sloan's house. Sloan and Hazel were so attentive they even peeled the shrimp for him at dinner, afraid he might overexert himself.

On the fourth afternoon, Sloan returned from town with a rabbit. "Uncle Keeley, tonight Hazel is going to make you some roasted rabbit. It's a specialty from her hometown. I bet you've never had it before."

Keeley, relaxing in a rocking chair with the air conditioning on, smiled and nodded. "That sounds wonderful. Please thank Hazel for me."

"Uncle Keeley, don't say that. We're family. It's no trouble at all."

Sloan took the rabbit to the kitchen, then returned to Keeley's side, his expression suddenly troubled. "By the way, Uncle Keeley, could I talk to you about something?"

Seeing Sloan's serious demeanor, Keeley sat up, a little concerned. "Sloan, what's wrong? You can just tell me. I'm not a stranger!"

Sloan glanced at Keeley, then continued, "Uncle Keeley, Hazel and I were talking, and we're thinking of opening a big supermarket in the city. The problem is, we're a bit short on capital. You still have that one million, don't you? I was wondering if you might be able to let us use it."

Keeley was confused. "But I just gave you each two million a few days ago."

"Well, here's the thing," Sloan explained. "To open a supermarket, we have to pay a security deposit of one and a half million. After paying that, we'd only have half a million left. That's not even enough to cover the rent, let alone stock the shelves! Otherwise, I would never have asked you for this."

Sloan quickly added, "But don't worry, Uncle Keeley! Once the supermarket opens, you'll be the biggest shareholder. We'll give you dividends at the end of every year!"

Keeley had never opened a supermarket and had no idea if a security deposit was required, but he trusted his nephew not to lie to him. Besides, they had been so good to him, and they had promised to share the profits. It sounded like a good arrangement.

"No joke, not a cent," Keeley confirmed, looking at Caitlin. "Catie, I know what you're thinking. You young people shouldn't assume the worst of everyone. The Prescotts are good people! We don't produce bad seeds! Even now, without any money to my name, my nephews will still respect me and take care of me until the end."

Caitlin's expression was complicated. Just as she was about to say something, a knock came from Keeley's end.

Keeley continued, "Catie, Fortune, I have to go. My nephew is calling me down for breakfast! They told me last night they were making my favorite eel noodle soup for me this morning."

He was sure the soup was ready.

With that, Keeley ended the video call and went to open the door.

When he opened it, Sloan was indeed standing there. But he was holding a suitcase and looked like a different person. The warmth and devotion were gone. He didn't even call him 'Uncle Keeley.' His voice was cold as he spoke.

"Hazel's parents are coming for an extended stay, and we just don't have enough rooms. Your other brothers were all fighting to have you stay with them, weren't they? I'm giving them the opportunity. Starting today, you can go live with them. I've already packed your things."
