Chapter 4 Worthless
After Evelyn Hart left, the office fell into a deathly silence. Ethan Miller’s face was so dark that it seemed as if it could drip with anger.
He tugged at his tie irritably. In his mind, he saw the image of Evelyn Hart smiling beside him in the past.
Was it really necessary for her to make such a big fuss just because he had changed Leah Foster’s doctor?
It seemed that the older she got, the less she knew how to distinguish what’s important from what’s not.
It was a good opportunity to teach her a lesson and make her realize that without him, she, Evelyn Hart, was worthless!
Outside the office.
Evelyn Hart looked at the familiar hospital corridor and suddenly felt a sense of relief as if a heavy burden had been lifted from her shoulders.
She let out a soft sigh and placed her hand on her chest. Once, her heart had been full of emotions because of Ethan Miller, but at this moment, a hint of lightness flashed in her eyes, as if telling herself that it was finally over.
In fact, letting go of a seven-year relationship wasn’t as difficult as she had thought, was it?
Evelyn Hart said to herself silently in her heart.
In these seven years, she had given so much and sacrificed a lot, but all she had gotten in return were Ethan Miller’s constant neglect and hurt. She should have realized long ago that this relationship had changed and that continuing it would only bring her more pain.
Sunk costs should not be considered in major decisions.
She should have seen this clearly a long time ago.
There were still twenty-five days left in the divorce cooling-off period. After those twenty-five days, once she got that divorce certificate, she would go abroad and leave this place.
Over the years, she had always revolved around Ethan Miller and William Miller, rarely spending time on herself.
Now, free from love, and about to leave the place where she had lived for so many years, it was time to gather with her friends one last time.
She lowered her head and looked at her phone screen, focusing on chatting with her friend, and didn’t notice the figure approaching her from behind.
“Dr. Hart, have you really thought this through about divorcing Ethan?”
Evelyn Hart heard the all-too-familiar voice behind her. The smile that had just appeared on her face from chatting with her friend was instantly frozen, as if blown away by a sudden cold wind.
She turned around with a cold expression. Behind her, Leah Foster’s face was slightly pale, as if she had been startled by something. Ther e tears in her bright almond-shaped eyes.
“Sorry, Dr. Hart. It’s ny fault. I didn’t expect that my friendship with Ethan would make you misunderstand like this. If you’re unhappy about it, you can come at me directly. Please don’t let this affect your relationship with Ethan. After all, William is still young and he needs his mother.”
Leah Foster’s voice was as soft as a mosquito’s buzz, but every word was clear, with a hint of trembling and pleading.
As she spoke, she bent slightly and bowed to Evelyn Hart.
When she stood up, she swayed slightly, as if she was unsteady on her feet.

Evelyn Hart looked at her delicate and vulnerable appearance and felt like laughing.
“Ethan Miller isn’t here now. You don’t need to put on such an act.”
Evelyn Hart crossed her arms and looked at her, her tone laced with sarcasm and disdain.

Leah Foster’s face turned even paler. She seemed to have been hit right where it hurt by Evelyn Hart’s words. Her body trembled slightly, and tears welled up in her eyes, but she tried hard not to let them fall.
“Dr. Hart, I… I didn’t mean to. I’m really sorry. I…”
Leah Foster choked up, her voice full of helplessness and grievance.
However, Evelyn Hart didn’t want to listen to her blatant lies at all.
She opened her mouth and interrupted Leah Foster’s words directly.
“Leah Foster, I’m too lazy to talk about what’s going on between you and Ethan Miller, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know. If you two were really innocent, would you keep calling him? Would you still show up in front of him like this, knowing full well that he’s married? But Ethan Miller and I are about to get a divorce, so your relationship doesn’t matter to me anymore. But if you keep pretending to be pitiful in front of me…”
Before Evelyn Hart could finish her sentence, she saw Leah Foster’s body tremble slightly. Then she lowered her head, and the tears that had been welling up in her eyes for a long time finally fell, dripping onto the floor with a soft and clear sound.
Her voice trembled even more. “I’m sorry, Dr. Hart. I really, really didn’t mean to.”
Evelyn Hart became even more impatient listening to her weak voice.
However, this time, before she could speak, Evelyn Hart felt a huge push from behind, shoving her violently against the nearby wall.
“Evelyn Hart!”
An angry voice rang out in her ear, and then Ethan Miller’s figure appeared in her field of vision.
He had a furious expression on his face, as if he could devour her alive.
Evelyn Hart was in so much pain from being pushed. Her back hit the wall, and she gasped in pain.
“What are you going crazy for!”
Evelyn Hart held her sore arm, her eyes filled with anger.
“Me going crazy? Evelyn Hart, look at what you’ve done!”
Ethan Miller’s eyes were full of anger. He stepped closer to Evelyn Hart, asking in a low and dissatisfied voice.
In his arms, he was still holding the pale and pitiful Leah Foster tightly, as if she was the victim.
Leah Foster looked at Evelyn Hart, bit her lip, and gently tugged at Ethan Miller’s sleeve.
“Ethan, don’t be angry. It’s not Dr. Hart’s fault. She just, just…”
Before she could finish, the tears fell first.
The teardrops fell down her face and landed on Ethan Miller’s hand, making her look even more pitiful.

ntly softened. He gently patted Leah Foster’s back, as if comforting a frightened child.
Then, he turned to Evelyn Hart again, his gaze intense, as if he could pierce through her.
“Evelyn Hart, what did you do to Leah? I know you’re not happy with her, but anyway, she’s a patient. As a doctor, how could you stimulate a patient like this? Where’s your professional ethics?”
Evelyn Hart looked at the disappointment in his eyes, and her chest heaved violently with anger.
Although she had long known that Ethan Miller would choose Leah Foster over her, Evelyn Hart still felt a stabbing
pain.
She looked into Ethan Miller’s eyes and said each word slowly.
“Ethan Miller, this is your hospital. Do I need to remind you that there are surveillance cameras in the corridor?”

Evelyn Hart looked at Leah Foster in his arms, who trembled at her words, and couldn’t help but feel it was ridiculous.
“If you really want to know what happened, you might as well check the surveillance footage to see who started this. Instead of just judging me based on Leah Foster’s one-sided story.”
She was too lazy to play along with Leah Foster’s melodramatic act. After saying that, she turned and left.
At the moment she turned around, she suddenly felt a sense of melancholy.
If it were before, she would have been heartbroken by Ethan Miller’s attitude and might even have burst into tears.
But at this moment, there was only relief and determination in her heart.
Ethan Miller, perhaps I once had illusions about you, thinking that you could understand me and trust me. But now I understand that what you care about is always Leah Foster.
Well, then I don’t have to stay for you anymore. Your love is not worth having, and it can no longer hold me back from moving forward.
