Chapter 64 Three Slaps

the Miller family.

Ethan Miller held a book in his hands, but his gaze was frequently drawn to the door, his mind wandering all day.

He believed that Evelyn wouldn’t abandon William Miller, that William would surely bring her back.

At the same time, he couldn’t shake the unease creeping in as he recalled how drastically Evelyn’s attitude toward him and William had changed over the past few days.

Leah Foster sat beside Ethan Miller, glancing at him as he shifted restlessly, a flicker of malice crossing her eyes.

Evelyn! You truly are a persistent ghost! .

“Ethan, don’t worry. William will definitely bring Dr. Hart back. You can trust him.”

Ethan Miller offered a perfunctory nod, not actually hearing what Leah Foster was saying.

Leah Foster noticed this, and her mood darkened further as she gripped her clothing tightly.

After a moment’s thought, she rose and sat next to Ethan Miller, deliberately leaning into him so that her thigh brushed against his leg, adopting the most seductive posture.

Ethan Miller finally snapped back to reality, his eyes betraying a moment of inner turmoil as a response to Leah Foster’s antics.

She, however, pretended not to notice, maintaining an innocent expression.

“Ethan, don’t worry. I’ll always be right here by your side.”

In a moment of emotional intensity, their eyes locked, and Leah Foster leaned in closer to Ethan Miller.

Just as their breaths were about to intertwine, the familiar sound of a car engine approached, accompanied by the voices of

William Miller and Evelyn.

Ethan Miller’s expression cleared instantly as he abruptly pushed Leah Foster away, not even glancing at her as he hastily adjusted his clothes and strode toward the door.

Leah Foster fell to the ground, a sharp pain shooting through her knee.

Yet, when she raised her eyes, she could only catch a glimpse of Ethan Miller’s hurried departure.

She bit down hard on her lip, her hands almost tearing her clothes apart in frustration.

Silently, she encouraged herself, calming her emotions before rising and heading towards the door.

Meanwhile.

As Ethan Miller saw William Miller and Evelyn, he completely disregarded William and moved straight to Evelyn, relief washing

over him in a smile.

“Evelyn, I knew you wouldn’t abandon William. Don’t worry, I won’t overlook you again. We’ll all be together as a family.”

As he spoke, Ethan Miller reached for Evelyn’s hand, but she pushed him away, her eyes filled with scorn.

“Ethan Miller, weren’t you the one who said I was using William to win your favor? Are you now employing the same tactic?”

Ethan Miller’s gaze faltered for a moment, but he remained obstinate.

“What are you talking about? I don’t understand. Look, Evelyn, what’s past is past. Isn’t it better for us to be together again?”.

Without another word, Evelyn slapped Ethan Miller across the face.

“Ethan Miller, that slap was for you breaking your promises to me.”

His expression darkened, and before he could defend himself, the second slap landed.

“And this one is for you, a father, shamelessly using your son to force me into submission. You don’t deserve to be a good

father.”

Ethan Miller clutched his injured face, staring at Evelyn in disbelief, fury blazing in his eyes.

“Evelyn, are you out of your mind? With you acting this way, do you even want to come back?”

Before he could finish his sentence, Evelyn struck him again, her expression utterly cold.

“This slap is for the youth and love I’ve lost because of you. A scoundrel like you doesn’t deserve me.”

“Ethan Miller, there’s no way we can ever go back.”

Leah Foster emerged, witnessing the scene unfold, a glint of satisfaction flashing in her eyes.

Though she found Evelyn equally detestable, a man who acted so pitifully deserved to be dealt with.

But what Leah Foster desired remained out of reach; she rushed over to Ethan Miller with a display of concern.

“Ethan, are you okay?”

Not receiving a response, she brushed it off and turned her focus back to Evelyn.

“Dr. Hart, aren’t you being a bit too much? Ethan is your husband and a man; you’re seriously hurting his dignity!”

Evelyn approached Leah Foster directly, taking two steps forward, causing Leah to instinctively hide behind Ethan Miller.

“Evelyn, what are you planning? I advise you not to be impulsive; Ethan will protect me!”

Since she had already struck Ethan Miller, Leah hoped to be spared.

Ethan Miller paid Leah Foster no mind, his gaze locked onto Evelyn.

“Evelyn, you really won’t come back, will you?”

Evelyn turned away, her actions providing the answer.

Ethan Miller’s eyes darkened as he watched her retreating figure.

“Evelyn, don’t think that with Grayson Hayes around, you’re in the clear. I’ll make you pay for what you’ve done today.”

Evelyn narrowed her eyes, retorting coldly.

“Then I wish you good luck.”

As Evelyn reached the door, Ethan Miller called out to the bodyguards in the yard.

“Take her down.”

Evelyn didn’t slow her pace, and Ethan Miller instinctively sensed something was off. But before he could decipher why, his men were quickly overtaken and laid out on the ground.

The bodyguards charged toward him, looking fierce and menacing.

Ethan Miller instantly recalled the events of the past few days, his eyes widening as he quickly retreated into the villa.

Sitting in the car, Evelyn exchanged a long gaze with Ethan Miller from a distance, then chuckled softly before driving away

from the villa.

The next day.

Evelyn went to the research institute with Grayson Hayes.

Their experiment had made some progress, but clearly, they needed more support.

Upon hearing the news, Evelyn’s mentor generously offered her lab for her use and provided her with his research team to assist in completing their experimental plan.

Initially, there were those who protested, but after Evelyn showcased her medical skills a few times, no one dared to voice any

opposition.

Among the research team were many young women who quickly took notice of Grayson Hayes, frequently approaching him with questions that were little more than an excuse to get closer.

Sure enough, on the first day, a female undergraduate walked up to Grayson Hayes, holding a

“Senior Hayes, I’m having trouble understanding some parts of this book. Could you explain it to me?”

Evelyn paused briefly, catching sight of Grayson Hayes accepting the book from the girl, a flicker of disappointment crossing her face before he turned to leave.

Thus, she missed the moment after she departed when Grayson Hayes returned the book, his expression growing cold.

“If you have questions, I suggest you ask the professor after class.”

That was a clear rejection, but the undergraduate wasn’t easily deterred and insisted on following Grayson Hayes closely.

“Senior, I find your explanations clearer than the professor’s. I really enjoy your lectures, and I hope you can help me, okay?”
