Chapter 120: The Sight Beyond

EIRLYS’ POV

Kierygan bent down, brushing a light kiss against the crown of my head before we parted ways for the day. My hours would be spent under Ulyanna and Scylla’s watchful eyes, while his would be consumed by matters of the kingdom-and the graver concerns stirred by recent events.

“Do well in training today,” he murmured with a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “I’ll see you later.”

I nodded, mirroring his smile, though my gaze lingered as he turned on his heel and strode toward

his study. His steps were heavier than usual, his shoulders drawn taut as if carrying a weight he refused to name.

He had been on edge ever since discovering Mirael’s betrayal. He wasn’t irritable, at least not with

  1. But closed-off, brooding, and unreadable. Even when it was just us, I felt the wall between us.

I knew he was furious, wounded by her treachery, perhaps even angry at himself for failing to see it

sooner. But something in his silence told me there was more. Last night, I could no longer stand it

and pressed him.

That was when he confessed: the Light Reaper was gathering three relics, each designed to be

used against me. Tools meant to wrench my light from me-so he could claim it all for himself.

I wished I could reassure him, tell him not to worry. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried too.

Terrified, in fact. So all I could do was pull him close-a gesture that felt almost useless against the

weight of what loomed. The unease that had filled the night returned the moment we woke,

lingering through breakfast and even as he pressed a farewell kiss to my head.

As soon as he disappeared from sight, I set off for the training grounds. Ulyanna and Scylla were already there. Ulyanna sat calmly on a log, a small, steady smile gracing her lips, while Scylla

strode toward me, practically vibrating with anticipation, as if she couldn’t wait to see what the day

would hold.

“I hope you’re ready for today’s exercises, Scylla said without preamble, her green eyes flashing. “We’ve decided it’s time to push you harder.”

“Push harder?” I echoed, brow furrowed. “What sort of exercises?”

Ulyanna rose, straightening and brushing off her skirt. “Since you mentioned hearing Morwenna’s voice when Mirael was near,” she began, her tone measured, “it’s a clear sign that your deeper powers are beginning to awaken.”

“Deeper powers?” I asked, leaning forward, curiosity prickling along my spine.

Ulyanna nodded. “Yes. Stellar abilities are not limited to summoning glow or crackle. Your magic

can extend beyond physical light-it can illuminate hidden truths, reveal illusions, detect wards, runes, and even spiritual auras.”

Scylla stepped closer, her eyes narrowing thoughtfully. “You’ve already sensed Morwenna’s whispers through the rune on Mirael, it’s clear you can perceive threads of magic embedded in people. Today, we’ll help you strengthen that sense

“You mean… I’ll be able to read magic as easily as I read words?” My pulse quickened at the

thought.

“Exactly,” Ulyanna said. “But it’s delicate work. Just as light can illuminate or blind, perception can

reveal-or overwhelm. You’ll need control, focus, and patience. That’s what today’s exercises are

meant to build.”

I hesitated, biting the inside of my cheek. “But… isn’t this exactly what the Light Reaper wants?” I

whispered, glancing between the two witches. “Every power I unlock… it’s another step closer to

him. Every flicker of my magic, another thread he can pull.”

Ulyanna exchanged a brief, measured look with Scylla before replying. “We’ve debated that

ourselves,” she said cautiously. “We both agreed that your powers would awaken one way or

another.”

Scylla leaned forward, her eyes sharp, and added softly, “Your mate may be right-there’s more to the prophecy than we understand. Stellar Fae are the origin of all magic, which is why they also possess the gift of foresight. Your mother wouldn’t have given you all seven powers if she believed you were doomed.”

I swallowed and stayed silent, uncertainty knotting my stomach.

Ulyanna placed a gentle hand on my shoulder. “Perhaps learning to understand your powers-to

bend them, to guide them-will give you… will give us all a fighting chance. Maybe this training will

awaken your sight, too, in ways you can’t yet imagine.”

I took a long breath, letting their words settle around me. Slowly, determination began to bloom in

the pit of my chest. If I’m bound to face the Light Reaper, I’m not going to let him win easily.

I straightened my shoulders, eyes blazing with resolve. “Then… let’s begin.”

The exercise was simple in concept but far from easy in practice. Ulyanna instructed me to hold

out my hands and summon the glow, letting it spiral and twist into threads of light that could probe the ground, the air, and the hidden seams of magic surrounding me.

“Focus on the senses beyond sight,” she said. “Seek the magic that hides.”

I clenched my fists, feeling the warmth of my power coil through my arms and spill from my

fingertips. At first, there was nothing. But Scylla’s calm, precise voice guided me. “Listen. Feel. Your light will reveal what lies beneath.”

Sweat dampened my hair, and my arms trembled, yet slowly, the threads of light began to respond.

They traced faint sigils in the dirt, pulsing in soft, deliberate patterns, revealing invisible wards and

hidden runes etched into the stone. A tingling thrill coursed through me each time my glow

unveiled something unseen, each discovery making my heart race with awe.

Hours slipped by, each exercise pressing me harder than the last. I was searching for another rune,

one buried beneath layer upon layer of wards, when something disrupted my focus-enough to

make me falter.

A faint whisper brushed the edge of my mind.

“Hurry up,” the voice urged. “It’s not going to hold for long.”

My blood ran cold. I knew that voice.

Morwenna.

ние

Her name slid into my thoughts like a shard of ice. My glow sputtered, dimming into frantic flickers

as dread coiled tight in my stomach. My breath hitched, my body locked in place.

“Is something wrong?” Scylla’s voice cut through, sharp with concern.

I forced myself to blink and turn toward her. My throat felt tight as I whispered, “I hear her again.

Morwenna.”

Ulyanna’s brows drew together in a sharp frown. “The rune on Mirael’s head was removed. You

shouldn’t be hearing Morwenna’s voice.”

Scylla’s gaze unfocused, her eyes glazing for the briefest instant. Then she hissed, “She’s here.”

Panic spiked in my chest. Before I could even draw breath to speak, Ulyanna seized my arm. White

smoke surged around us, swallowing everything.

When my vision cleared, we were standing in Kierygan’s study-right before his desk.

I didn’t bother softening it. “Morwenna’s here,” I said, my voice sharper than I intended. “She’s come

for Mirael.”
