The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 921

Chapter 921

The two men behind the lead researcher realized the mission had failed and immediately tried to kill themselves, too.

Hayley reacted even faster. She rushed forward and punched both of them across the face, snapping their jaws sideways instantly.

At the same time, she suddenly realized that these three probably weren’t sent by Decider One after all.

If Decider One wanted to move against her early and force her to become a zombie ahead of schedule, then these people wouldn’t be trying to commit suicide after failing. They would’ve called for backup immediately.

Instead, the whole thing felt secretive, like they had snuck in behind everyone’s backs to act on their own.

They had even shut off the room surveillance first.

“Who the hell sent you?”

Hayley grabbed the leader by the collar and started interrogating him, but the man still refused to speak. She crushed several his bones one after another, making sickening cracks.

Sweat poured down the man’s face from the pain. Yet even then, neither he nor the two behind him opened their mouths. The look’in their eyes made them seem almost fanatically prepared to die.

When Hayley saw that, her attention drifted toward the syringe they had tried to inject into her earlier.

“Still not talking?” She slowly lifted the serum. “Then maybe I’ll find out what this thing does myself.”

The moment the syringe came into view, the lead man’s expression finally changed. However, it only lasted a second before that same fearless resolve returned.

He stared at Hayley silently, ready to die without saying a word.

Just as the syringe was about to pierce his skin, a frantic male voice suddenly crackled through the earpiece hanging beside his

ear.

“Abort the operation immediately! Nobody is allowed to hurt Hayley! Stop right now! No one moves!”

The voice sounded incredibly familiar. So familiar that Hayley froze for a second.

She reached over, pulled the earpiece off the white coat, and spoke into it decertainly.

“Uncle Kyle?”

The person on the other side clearly froze, too. “Holly?”

“Yeah, it’s me.”

“Are you alright?” Kyle’s voice shook with obvious relief.

“Still alive, I guess.”

The moment Hayley said that, she clearly heard him let out a long breath.

“Good. I’m glad you’re safe.” Kyle lowered his voice. “They’re my people. I’ll come to headquarters tomorrow and get you out.”

Hayley & eyes widened “They’re your people?”

“Yes. More accurately, we’re all Prometheus ”

“What’s Prometheus?”

+15 Bon

“The opposition faction inside Ascendant Creed”

Five sites later, after sang, to Kyle’s explanation, Hayley finally understood what was going on.

Ascendant Creed might be inache, but not everyone inside the organization agreed with what it was doing,

Kyle had secretly gathered some of those dissenters and formed a resistance faction called Prometheus, a group trying to preserve humanity’s last spark while secretly fighting against Ascendant Creed from within.

The reason Hayley had managed to survive against Ascendant Creed for this long was partly because of them. Otherwise, with Facendant Creed’s resources and brutality, they could’ve wiped her out long ago if they had truly gone all in.

“But why were they trying to kill me?”

“Because they thought you were planning to join Ascendant Creed,” Kyle explained helplessly. “You’re too powerful. If you actually became the zombie king, nobody would be able to stop you anymore. So they acted without permission.”

Hayley fell silent

So these idiots were technically on her side.

Kyle s side seemed to be under surveillance as well, because his voice suddenly became hurried.

“I can’t keep talking, I’ll arrive at headquarters tomorrow. Wait for me there. And those three can be trusted.”
