If it were a multiple pregnancy, she could even selectively screen for the genders.
On one side of the scale: a loveless marriage with Harriet, plus one son and one daughter.
On the other side: her, the childhood sweetheart who stood as his equal, along with two sons and a daughter, or maybe even three sons.
When that time came, what would Jason choose?
Harriet, you've already lost!
"Boss, Ms. Quentin, we've arrived!"
The car came to a stop, pulling Jane out of her reverie.
She looked over at Jason, offering him a bright, sophisticated smile.
Lunch was arranged at the sky restaurant on the top floor of the Portsmouth Grand Hotel.
The moment the elevator doors opened, Nolan Lynn, dressed in a sharp gray suit, walked over and playfully punched Jason on the shoulder. "Look at you, Mr. Whitaker. You come all the way to Portsmouth and don't even call me? I had to find out from the news! Not cool, man!"
Bright sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The sprawling sky restaurant, capable of hosting dozens of tables, had clearly been fully bought out for the afternoon.
At the center round table, men and women stood up in unison.
They were all familiar faces.
Jason's expression relaxed slightly.
Knowing this crowd, they wouldn't let him leave until dinner was over.
Jason turned to Justin. "Go grab some lunch yourself. You can take the afternoon off to walk around and buy some local souvenirs for your family."
That was his way of saying he wouldn't be needed for the rest of the day.
Justin nodded. "Understood."
Jane's heart began to race.
"Jane, when did you get back? Well, I guess old classmates really can't compete with old flames, huh..."
"Don't talk nonsense!"
She said it dismissively, but with her flushed cheeks and affectionate eyes, who at the table couldn't see right through her?
For a moment, the teasing grew even louder.
After a few rounds of drinks, the men began reminiscing about the old days.
A few of the women gathered together to chat about their careers and families.
Unsurprisingly, the topic shifted to Jane.
"Jane, you've stayed single all these years. Are you seriously still waiting for Jason?"
"I'd advise you to give it up. Even though Jason and his wife don't have the best relationship, they have kids. It's not that easy to get a divorce."
"Exactly. You've got money, looks, and time—what kind of man couldn't you get? If you keep dragging this out, you'll just waste your youth. Plus, you risk being labeled the other woman. Is it really worth it?"
