Jillian smiled warmly at him. "Going out?"

Terrified that she might notice something, Mrs. Zeller hastily made an excuse. "Yes, the weekend starts tomorrow, so it's the perfect time to go out and play for a bit."

Jillian didn't press further.

Connor quickly added, "Dad said he's taking me out to dinner. We'll be back soon."

Jillian nodded, her expression calm, showing no extra reaction.

A wave of confusion washed over Connor. What was wrong with Mom? Why wasn't she asking anything?

Yet deep down, he was secretly afraid she would press him.

Seeing the two of them still standing awkwardly in the entryway, Jillian reminded them, "Aren't you leaving? Since you have plans, you shouldn't be late."

"Mom," Connor called out instinctively.

Jillian's smile didn't waver as she pointed it out directly. "You're going to see Sylvia, right? It's fine. Since you prepared a gift, of course you should give it to her promptly."

Connor was stunned, tentatively asking, "Then, Mom, we're leaving?"

"Go ahead."

Connor and Mrs. Zeller left The Yale Residences completely bewildered.

Sitting in the car, Connor still felt uneasy. He had thought that if his mother knew he was going to see Sylvia, she would be furious. But she was excessively calm, leaving him feeling hollow inside.

Mrs. Zeller, however, harbored different thoughts and felt secretly smug. She believed Jillian had finally recognized her place, understanding that she couldn't compare to Sylvia and had accepted her fate.

It proved that a person needed to know their limits. Mrs. Zeller looked out the window, her eyes full of certainty.

Killian didn't go straight home after leaving the office. Instead, he hurried to meet up with them, taking Connor and Mrs. Zeller to join Sylvia for dinner.

During the meal, Connor formally presented the gift to Sylvia.
