Moreover, she had already purchased a property for her mother and grandmother, leaving them with enough savings to ensure they wouldn't have any financial worries for the next few years.

"It's only for three to five years, then I'll be back."

Seeing her determination, Mallory relented. "Then I support you. Everyone has to have a dream. I travel abroad often anyway, so whenever I'm in Germany, I'll come find you."

"Sounds good," Jillian agreed.

After chatting for a bit, Jillian hesitated before asking, "By the way, I wanted to ask you something. What are the requirements to adopt a child through your charity foundation?"

Mallory thought for a moment before answering seriously, "Your financial situation easily meets the mark; our foundation's basic requirements aren't overly strict. But there's one hard rule: the adoptive parents must be a legally married couple, and both spouses must jointly consent and sign the paperwork."

"You must be married," Jillian repeated softly.

She had looked into adoption policies before and knew that formal adoptions required a complete family unit, rarely accepting single applicants. In other words, on her own, she had no right to adopt.

"Exactly. It's a non-negotiable rule, and I have no authority to change it," Mallory looked at her, offering a gentle reminder. "But you and Killian still haven't finalized your divorce. You're still legally married."

Jillian slowly lowered her eyes. She knew that, of course, but Killian had never wanted to adopt a child. He would never agree.

Without Killian's signature of consent, her application was nothing more than a piece of waste paper.

"I'll try to find a way," Jillian said softly.

Curious, Mallory asked, "Why the sudden thought of adopting a child?"

"I want to adopt Stella."

Hearing that name, Mallory's eyes lit up. "You want to adopt her? That's wonderful! I was always afraid of making you sad, so I never brought it up. Since Stella was sent back to the orphanage, she's become even more withdrawn. She won't talk to or get close to anyone. But I could tell that she was exclusively attached to you."

Jillian's chest seized, a crushing wave of guilt washing over her.

She still remembered that Stella was a child who had been kidnapped by traffickers. Because she was mute and couldn't cry or speak, the traffickers found her burdensome and abandoned her.
