Jillian's face was deathly pale. Pressing her lips into a tight line, she turned around and forced herself to walk toward Natalie, enduring the sharp agony radiating from her knees.
Her steps were unsteady, and her vision was still slightly blurred from the dizziness, but the diamond necklace around Natalie's neck caught the sunlight, flashing with blinding brilliance.
It acted like a beacon guiding her forward.
When Jillian reached her, Natalie was still laughing with her friends, completely oblivious to her presence.
Jillian shot her hand out and violently ripped the necklace right off Natalie's neck.
Natalie let out a sharp cry of pain as the chain scraped her skin.
"What the hell are you doing?!" she shrieked.
Without a word, Jillian chucked the necklace straight into the massive fountain and turned to leave.
"Hey!" Natalie screamed in blind rage, scrambling toward the fountain with her friends close behind.
Jillian pushed her way out through the chaotic crowd.
Once safely inside the car, she pressed her trembling hands against her bruised, shaking legs.
She had just gotten her revenge on Natalie, so why did she still feel so unbearably suffocated?
Was it because of the way Killian had looked at her?
He had looked at her like she was a stray dog bleeding in the street!
Jillian fought fiercely to hold back her tears, but the dam finally broke. She collapsed against the steering wheel, sobbing uncontrollably.
Her shoulders shook violently as curious pedestrians peered into the parked car.
...
At an exclusive mountain sanctuary, the air was thick with the scent of blooming lilies.
Sienna Sterling wore an elegant dark green dress. Her makeup was flawless, her hair styled to perfection. She sat gracefully in the front pew, holding a lit memorial candle.
The surrounding congregants prayed for fame and fortune.
But she prayed for a child she would never see again, hoping they would grow up safely somewhere out of sight.
The clergyman stepped forward, respectfully taking the candle from her hands and placing it on the altar.
"Will I ever see her again?" Sienna murmured softly.
The clergyman let out a long sigh. "If destiny wills it, you will reunite."
After lighting the candle, Sienna made another massive donation of millions of dollars to the sanctuary.
The moment she stepped outside, her phone rang. It was Natalie.
Natalie was screaming hysterically into the receiver, loudly recounting exactly how Jillian had just attacked her.
She gritted her teeth, sucking in a sharp breath.
Daniel crouched down in front of her.
A huge patch of skin had been violently scraped off, exposing raw, sensitive flesh beaded with blood. Pulling the denim away had left it looking like a gruesome, bloody mess.
Daniel let out a heavy sigh. "And you call this nothing?"
He carefully dabbed the antiseptic over the wound. Perhaps worried about causing her more pain, he gently blew on it to ease the sting.
The light brush of air made her skin tingle, leaving Jillian feeling deeply embarrassed.
After sanitizing the scrape, he applied a soothing ointment to stop the bleeding and reduce the swelling.
That afternoon, Daniel tried to give her the rest of the day off, but she flatly refused.
As she finally left the office, Jillian checked her phone.
There was a missed call from Sienna Sterling.
In the past, seeing that notification would have sent her into a blind panic, and she would have called back immediately.
But now, she couldn't care less. Once she divorced Killian, Sienna would be absolutely nothing to her.
Jillian hailed a ride-share and headed back to The Yale Residences.
