"Oh, almost forgot." Natalie reached up and touched the diamond necklace resting on her collarbone.
"There's a tiny scratch on this. Take it to the boutique and get it serviced for me."
She had dragged her all the way across town just for this.
Jillian's chest heaved.
She didn't reach for the necklace. Instead, she stared hard at the reflection in Natalie's sunglasses.
She could practically feel the mocking glare hidden behind those dark lenses.
"I have to go back to work this afternoon. Find someone else."
"Work? What work? Haven't you just been living off my brother this whole time? You, your mom, your grandma..."
Jillian took a deep, shuddering breath. The entire Quincy family believed she and her family were leeches surviving on Killian's dime.
The truth was, Judith had her pension and made extra money doing crafts with Lydia.
Aside from the millions of dollars in medical bills, they had never touched a cent of Killian's money.
"If there's nothing else, I'm leaving." Jillian wasn't going to waste her breath explaining.
"Nat, who is this?" a young woman nearby asked.
Natalie threw a sideways glance at Jillian and purposely raised her voice. "I have no idea. Probably just my brother's desperate stalker."
"Her? Stalking Killian?"
"What gives her the right to obsess over him? Her thick skin?"
"Hahaha!"
Natalie and her friends erupted into uncontrollable laughter, entirely unbothered by whether Jillian could hear them or not.
Or rather, they wanted her to hear every word.
Jillian clenched her fists, biting down on her lips as she forced herself to keep walking.
She was going to divorce Killian soon anyway. There was no point in causing a scene.
But Natalie wasn't satisfied. She shot a pointed look at a redhead across the lawn.
The redhead, who had been aggressively pursuing Natalie and doing whatever she wanted, understood instantly.
He nodded, and just as Jillian walked past, he hurled a basketball violently at her.
Killian glanced at her. "I'll have Nate transfer it to you."
Then, he turned and walked away.
As he passed Jillian again, he didn't even spare her a sidelong glance.
Jillian kept her head bowed, feeling like a condemned prisoner.
Only after Killian's figure completely disappeared did she slowly, painfully force herself upright.
Behind her, Natalie's friends gasped in awe.
"He's so generous! God, I wish I had a brother who threw money around like that."
"Forget about having him as a brother. You should be trying to become Natalie's sister-in-law!"
Natalie scoffed loudly. "Don't even dream about it. My brother already has a girlfriend, and they are completely obsessed with each other."
"Really?"
"Duh. She's gorgeous, totally badass, the top graduate from St. Jude's University, studied abroad, and is busy building her own startup right now. She's way out of the league of some random nobody."
The entire crowd swooned with collective envy.
