On the other side of the room, Jillian wrapped up her conversation, gave a polite nod of farewell to her colleague, and checked her watch. It was 8:30 PM—the exact time she had scheduled to leave.
She had just turned to head out when the organizer hurried over, his face glowing with enthusiasm as he explained his intentions.
"Mr. Quincy?" Jillian raised an eyebrow, her tone completely flat.
"Yes, exactly!" the organizer practically beamed. "Mr. Quincy is the top capital investor in the country. He specifically noticed you earlier and is highly interested in your technical projects. He'd love to speak with you privately."
Jillian lowered her eyes, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk touching the corners of her lips.
"No need," she replied, her voice distant and cool. "I have other plans to get to."
With that, she turned to walk away.
The organizer scrambled forward, blocking her path in absolute disbelief. "Ms. Sophia, an invitation from Mr. Quincy is an opportunity countless people would kill for! Please, reconsider."
"I'm sorry, but my schedule is set, and I don't make exceptions for anyone."
Without another word, she stepped past him and left the venue.
The organizer, anxious and sweating, returned to the VIP lounge. Trying to phrase it as delicately as possible, he explained to Killian, "I am so sorry, Mr. Quincy. When I went to speak with her, Ms. Sophia had already left the venue early. I couldn't arrange the meeting this time, but I will definitely set it up in advance next time."
Killian looked up, his cold gaze sweeping over the man.
He had dealt with countless people and instantly saw right through the organizer's evasive eyes and overly careful tone.
She hadn't left early. She had rejected him.
"It's fine. Thank you for your trouble," Killian replied flatly, his voice betraying no emotion.
The organizer bowed and thanked him profusely.
Killian didn't give the minor rejection a second thought.
He simply assumed the expert was arrogant, unfamiliar with the nuances of domestic networking, and disdained kissing up to investors.
