The Ex-Wife He Can’t Have novel Chapter 185

The guests at that evening's dinner were all close acquaintances, and Mallory was among them.

During a lull in the conversation, Jillian pulled out her phone and started a video call, letting Mallory and Stella catch up.

Over the years, whenever Mallory traveled abroad, she would make it a point to visit Stella, so the two were quite close.

Little Stella's soft, exquisite face appeared on the screen as she called out sweetly, "Mallory!"

Mallory's eyes softened, a warm smile spreading across her face. "Our Stella is getting prettier and sweeter by the day. Your mom takes such good care of you."

Leon also asked how Stella was doing, knowing she was Jillian's adopted daughter.

"I was in a rush today, but I'll bring her a gift next time."

Jillian smiled faintly, her tone relaxed yet politely distant. "There's no need for that. Children shouldn't be overly spoiled."

Using Stella as an icebreaker, the two shattered their five-year deadlock and fell back into their old rhythm of chatting.

Leon spoke up. "Five years is a long time. You've changed a lot."

Jillian offered a small smile. "Have I? People are bound to change."

Her tone was perfectly calm, devoid of any readable emotion.

Leon's gaze subtly drifted toward Jillian's right hand resting on the table.

Her ring finger was completely bare. There was no ring, nor was there any indent left behind by years of wearing one.

Tiny sparks exploded in his chest, catching fire like wild grass. "What is it?" Jillian sharply caught his stare and looked up.

Leon quickly averted his eyes. "Nothing."

He changed the subject. "By the way, I'm planning to invest in a tech startup soon. Could you help me evaluate it sometime?"

Jillian didn't decline. "Sure."

Leon hesitated for a moment before probing cautiously. "Are you and Killian... officially divorced?"

Jillian didn't hesitate. "Completely divorced."
