Mallory looked even more guilty, running a hand through her messy hair. Her voice dropped to a whisper. "But I was so spoiled and entitled back then. I thought my money let me do whatever I wanted, and I crossed a major line."
"What did you do?"
"Our original deal was just that he'd be my fake boyfriend. He'd take me shopping, go to parties with me, stroke my ego, and help me win that stupid bet. But after a while, I noticed how ridiculously good-looking he was, and how fit he was. So, I got greedy."
Mallory's voice faded into extreme embarrassment. "I demanded that he... sleep with me."
Jillian let out a heavy sigh, rubbing her temples.
"Still, he didn't exactly lose out. You're stunning. If you guys actually slept together, he still hit the jackpot," Jillian said, trying to be pragmatic.
"It wasn't that simple. He refused at first. I held off for a bit, but I wanted to punish him for rejecting me. Then his mom's condition deteriorated, and she needed to be transferred to a better hospital. That meant another massive pile of medical bills. I used it against him. I made him stand in front of me and strip. For every piece of clothing he took off, I gave him ten thousand dollars..."
Jillian rubbed the bridge of her nose, thoroughly exasperated.
But honestly, she wasn't entirely surprised.
She remembered exactly how Mallory used to be.
Back then, Mallory was a chaotic force of nature. She would drive her cherry-red Ferrari across campus wearing a scandalous crop top, completely unfazed by the vicious gossip and judgmental stares. She simply didn't care.
"I admit, I was just lusting after him and wanted to take advantage of the situation. I didn't think I was doing anything purely evil. I just never realized that I was absolutely annihilating his self-respect."
Jillian sighed softly. "No wonder you used to joke that Preston was just a toyboy you paid for. For a guy like him—brilliant, dirt-poor, and fiercely proud—that kind of humiliation would breed a lot of hatred."
She looked at Mallory closely. "Did you brag about what you made him do to your friends?"
Mallory's face burned crimson, and she nodded in shame. "Yes... but I cut ties with all of those people later on."
"Why did you cut them off?"
