Jillian smiled faintly.

Hans had been speaking perfectly fluent English with Daniel just moments ago.

But the moment he addressed her, he switched flawlessly to German.

It was a blatant gatekeeping tactic.

If she couldn't speak the language, the conversation would be dead on arrival.

"I believe the absolute crux of automotive automation lies in the planning and control algorithms..."

Jillian fired back in immaculate, unaccented German, systematically dissecting her industry theories.

She navigated dense, esoteric technical jargon with effortless precision.

Her language was razor-sharp, her insights aggressive and visionary.

Hans's disdain evaporated, replaced by intense focus.

Soon, he was leaning over the table, thoroughly engrossed.

After laying out her thesis, Jillian flipped the script and posed a highly complex question of her own.

Hans's demeanor had completely shifted. He engaged in a fierce, high-level debate with her.

"Jillian, your perspectives are incredibly profound. I've learned a great deal speaking with you just now."

"Thank you. The feeling is mutual."

Daniel returned from the restroom.

Hans immediately initiated conversation with him.

His haughtiness had vanished. He clapped Daniel on the shoulder, chatting enthusiastically while shooting impressed glances at Jillian.

The previous condescension was entirely replaced by genuine respect.

"Daniel, this has been an incredibly productive evening. You have some of the most brilliant, innovative engineering talent I've ever seen. I will be speaking to headquarters about fast-tracking a partnership with Langley Tech."

"..."

The two men raised their glasses and toasted.

After dinner, the group moved to the lobby.

Daniel and Hans shook hands and exchanged final pleasantries.

The executives said their goodbyes.

"I'll drive you back," Daniel offered.

"It's fine. I can grab a cab."

"You saved my ass tonight. The least I can do is give you a ride."

Daniel gestured toward the exit like a perfect gentleman.

As they turned to leave, a shrill, excited voice rang out across the lobby. "Daniel!"

They turned around.

Killian's group was walking right toward them.

Sylvia was clinging tightly to Killian's arm, the source of the enthusiastic shout.

Seeing Daniel's refined, handsome features, a brief flash of bashfulness and delight crossed Sylvia's eyes.

She subtly loosened her grip on Killian.

"What a coincidence, Daniel. Were you having dinner here too?"
