Jillian chuckled, shaking her head. Just as she parted her lips to explain, she felt an icy, piercing gaze lock onto her.

Acting on instinct, she looked up and met Killian's eyes.

His stare was bone-chilling, like a drawn blade driving straight toward her. It carried an intense, suffocating weight, as if trying to impale her on the spot.

Jillian was baffled, finding his reaction both unprovoked and absurd.

She simply couldn't fathom what gave him the right to scrutinize her like a criminal.

A moment later, she casually withdrew her gaze. Keeping a soft, indifferent smile on her face, she turned her head and went right back to chatting with the guests, completely unbothered.

Just then, Sienna sauntered over to Killian.

She noticed his eyes glued to Jillian, and a flicker of secret delight danced in her chest. Hiding it perfectly, she spoke with feigned nonchalance, "A lot of people are getting the wrong idea over there, assuming Jillian is Daniel's girlfriend."

Killian slowly tore his eyes away, his deep voice arctic and utterly devoid of emotion. "And?"

"I just mean," Sienna chose her words meticulously, her voice soft, "you and Jillian haven't divorced yet. Technically, she's still your wife. Having her mistaken for another man's girlfriend... it doesn't look good for you."

Killian merely scoffed. Without a single word of response, he spun on his heel and walked off. His retreating figure was rigid and unforgiving, like a glacier that had never seen the sun.

Sienna stared after him, stifling a quiet sigh.

The gala raged on in full swing.

Daniel's parents were in attendance, and since the Langleys had some distant ties to the Hendersons, Daniel soon found himself glued to his parents' side, schmoozing and unable to slip away.

Jillian had never been a part of this ultra-elite circle and had no desire to force her way in. She found a quiet nook in the ballroom, sat down, and pulled out her phone to catch up on work emails.
