Sylvia Xavier hastily wrapped up her overseas itinerary and returned home early.
Lugging her suitcase, she walked out of Metro City International Airport. Without a PR team coordinating an airport photoshoot this time, she dressed casually, her long hair falling loosely around her shoulders.
After handing her luggage to the waiting assistant, she slid into the car. The second the door closed, she dialed Gibson's number, unable to wait a moment longer.
"Gibson, I just saw the news. Is our family's hospital being investigated?"
Gibson's tone was flat, tinged with exhaustion. "Yeah. But I can handle it. It's not a huge issue."
"How did it blow up into such a huge scandal? Did someone tip them off?"
Gibson paused, a flicker of displeasure in his chest. "I thought you'd be more concerned about the hospital's management loopholes and the social impact this will have."
Sylvia felt a surge of annoyance.
She and Gibson had clashed since childhood. Sometimes, she felt he was far too rigid, completely inflexible, and had an insufferable savior complex.
"Gibson, what's the point of me caring about that?" Sylvia retorted sharply. "It's all over the internet now! This is a massive hit to the Xavier family's reputation! How is the industry going to look at us? Who will ever trust our hospital again?"
Her relentless complaining deepened the crease between Gibson's brows.
A cynical thought unexpectedly crossed his mind: Sylvia wasn't even a blood relative of the Xavier family. What did the family's well-being really have to do with her?
Of course, he kept those thoughts to himself, choosing not to say them out loud.
"The root of this disaster lies with the previous administration," Gibson explained evenly, suppressing his frustration. "A loophole this massive built up over years before finally exploding. It didn't happen overnight."
Sylvia listened impatiently. Realizing she couldn't get through to him, she offered a few rushed words and hung up.
The moment she disconnected, a wave of regret hit her. She should have pressed him on exactly which doctors were implicated in the scandal.
However, she quickly dialed Madeline's number instead.
Madeline remained completely unfazed, reassuring her that the situation was handled and there was no need to worry.
Sylvia instantly breathed a massive sigh of relief.
