Realizing her slip of the tongue, Sienna hastily tried to cover it up. "What I meant is, Connor will be able to see his mom more often."
"How has Natalie been lately?" Killian suddenly changed the subject.
Sienna's eyes darkened, and she lowered her head. "I blocked her. We haven't been in touch for a while."
Killian was slightly surprised.
He had always assumed that compared to him, Sienna doted on Natalie more.
Though they shared no blood relation, Natalie was the one Sienna had personally adopted and brought into the Quincy family. Naturally, she held a special affection for the girl.
To completely cut ties simply over a financial loss was truly unexpected.
"It's good to let her cool off for a while. Teach her a lesson," Killian said.
"That's not what I'm thinking," Sienna said slowly. "I raised her all these years. The money I've given her here and there is more than enough for her to live comfortably for the rest of her life, as long as she isn't reckless. So, from now on, I have no intention of getting involved in her affairs. Losing the title of the Quincy family's young lady might not necessarily be a bad thing for her."
"Understood," Killian said evenly, asking no further questions.
He never had much of a sibling bond with Natalie anyway. In fact, all the relatives in the Quincy family were entirely dispensable to him.
Years ago, he had been brought into the Quincy household as an illegitimate child.
The rest of the family had never spared him from their cold mockery, suppression, and belittlement.
His status as the heir was something he fought for with his own blood, sweat, and tears; he didn't rely on anyone.
Naturally, he held very little affection for any of them.
Over the next few days, Sylvia waited in vain for Killian to call.
The news of their breakup spread wider and wider, leaking out from their tight-knit circle. The outside world had almost universally concluded that Killian had dumped her.
Sylvia was slowly losing her composure.
Staying at home, her mother treated her with icy indifference.
