"Are you sure she'll take them? I talked to her for ages, and she never gave me a straight answer."
That was the one thing Eleanor didn't like about Jillian.
Although her attitude was respectful, she hadn't made a solid promise about having another baby by the end of the call.
"She listens to me."
Killian's tone was completely flat, stating it like an undeniable universal truth.
Eleanor wholeheartedly agreed with that assessment.
For the past five years of their marriage, Jillian had catered to Killian's every whim.
Having a second child would cement Jillian's status in the Quincy family. There was no logical reason for her to refuse.
"Alright then. Once the prescription is ready, I'll have it sent over to you."
"Just send someone. You don't need to come yourself."
After hanging up, Eleanor couldn't sit still and immediately started making arrangements to contact her physician.
...
[Come to the office at noon.]
When she received the message,
Jillian's first thought was that it was a wrong number. She backed out of the chat to check, but it was indeed from Killian.
He hadn't texted her in ages, and even when he did, it was always a command.
In the past, Jillian would read his messages over and over again. Even if it was just a few words with a harsh undertone,
she would still be overjoyed.
A text from the man she loved had felt like a vibrant bouquet basking in the summer sun.
But now, it only earned a frown.
Her lunch break was only two hours, and without a car, she wasn't sure she could make the round trip in time.
Even if she rushed, there was no guarantee she'd be back before her afternoon shift started.
The trauma of her last visit to Quincy Tech was still fresh in her mind.
Jillian had no desire to subject herself to that humiliation again.
[Is there a problem?]
She typed back.
Killian was in the middle of a meeting. He stared down at those four words for a long time.
A group of top executives assumed he had received urgent news and paused their presentation to wait for him.
"Continue," Killian ordered.
If they were getting divorced, neither of them intended to hide it from him.
Daniel studied her expression.
Knowing he was worried about her, Jillian looked up and offered a reassuring smile. "It's for the best. It's better than dragging things out."
Daniel nodded. "Better to rip the bandage off."
Before leaving the office, Jillian stopped by the restroom to check her reflection.
If this was their final meeting, she wanted to leave a decent last impression.
Not that Killian would even notice.
When she arrived at Quincy Tech, Nate Nash was already downstairs waiting for her.
"Mr. Quincy is waiting for you in his office. Young Master Connor will be here shortly."
Nate led her to the elevators.
When the doors opened, she was greeted by a massive crowd.
Confused, Jillian followed Nate into the main workspace.
Ahead of them, a large group of people was clustered around Sylvia.
She was dressed in a chic, smoky-purple power suit and heels, wearing an employee badge that only amplified her aura as a high-powered executive.
