Surrounded by top executives, she was being escorted on a grand tour of the company.

The regular employees were kept at a distance by her overwhelming presence, looking for all the world like a monarch inspecting her kingdom.

A loud buzzing filled Jillian's head.

She thought it was just going to be the three of them. She had no idea Sylvia would be here.

"Did you hear? That's the newly appointed director of Project Zephyr."

"She's so young! Can she really handle a project this massive?"

"She's got a Ph.D. from Stanford and graduated top of her class at St. Jude's. Oh, and word on the street is she's the boss's girlfriend."

"Well, that explains it. She has the brains and the connections."

"The board of directors actually raised concerns about her lack of experience, but Mr. Quincy shut them all down and backed her completely."

"Wow. Handing billions of dollars over to his girlfriend... Now that's true love."

Jillian's face drained of color as the buzzing in her ears grew louder.

Billions of dollars...

Sylvia...

Just how deeply did Killian love her to entrust her with a multi-billion dollar project?

He had even shielded her from every ounce of criticism.

So this was what it meant to truly love someone. To lift them up, to let them shine brilliantly, to make them the center of the universe.

As Sylvia's entourage moved in her direction, the crowd began to shuffle back.

Lost in her own thoughts, Jillian didn't react in time.

Someone backing up stepped hard on her foot. She stumbled, a sharp gasp escaping her lips.

People turned to look, and Sylvia seemed to notice the commotion, glancing over.

In that split second, Jillian's only instinct was to hide.

She wanted to shrink into the background, to remain a pathetic nobody amplifying Sylvia's dazzling spotlight.

Jillian immediately turned around to face the wall.

Sylvia withdrew her gaze, seemingly completely unaware of Jillian, but a faint, triumphant smirk touched the corner of her lips.

Once the tour moved on, the crowd dispersed.

Nate continued leading Jillian down the hall.

Once the door clicked shut, they were alone.

Jillian looked up, immediately meeting Killian's cold, indifferent stare.

Despite herself, her heart fluttered wildly in her chest.

"Where's Connor?"

Killian looked away. "Felicia."

A middle-aged woman stepped forward, her hands full of various herbal medicine packets.

It was Eleanor's most trusted maid and personal confidante, Felicia Quinn.

"Mrs. Quincy, these are the supplements Madam Eleanor had prepared for you to nourish your body. The dosage instructions are inside. Please make sure to take them on schedule."

Jillian stared blankly, unable to process the situation.

"What?" she asked.

"Madam Eleanor mentioned this to you before. It's for your second child. The herbs just arrived today, and she insisted we bring them over immediately."

Felicia spoke with a bright smile,

acting as if receiving such an honor from Eleanor was the greatest blessing in the world.
