Not long after, Nate brought in a few staff members to set up the food.

Once the meal was ready, Nate and his team left.

Jillian's phone rang. She stepped aside to answer it.

It was hard to hear the exact details, but it was clearly a call from Daniel.

Jillian covered the receiver, nodding occasionally with a completely professional expression.

Toward the end, Daniel asked, "When are you coming back?"

Jillian glanced at the table nearby. "I won't be back for lunch. There are still a few terms we haven't agreed on."

"Eating over there?"

"Yeah."

"Alright, whether the deal goes through or not, make sure you eat plenty of their food. Don't suffer in silence for nothing."

Jillian burst out laughing, realizing that the more time Daniel spent with Mallory, the more her friend's infectious personality rubbed off on him.

Daniel said, "Since that's the case, I'll hang up now."

"Okay."

Jillian waited a moment for him to end the call first, a habit she had developed at work to always let the boss hang up first.

Then she put her phone away and turned around, only to see Killian sitting in his executive chair. He leaned back with his long legs spread in a lazy, casual posture, but his eyes were extraordinarily cold and fathomless, making it impossible to read his mind.

Jillian gave a brief nod, walked over to one end of the dining table, and sat down to start her meal.

She had already made peace with how this negotiation might go. She would do her best and leave the rest to fate.

If they reached an agreement, it would obviously be a huge boost for Project Astra.

If they didn't, there was still a silver lining—at least she wouldn't have to work with Killian.

A long moment passed before Killian finally approached the other end of the table, sitting down to eat as well.

Jillian didn't look up once.

Before their divorce, sitting at the same table as him used to make her incredibly anxious. Her mind had been entirely focused on him, eager to serve his food and scoop his soup, hyper-aware of his every move.
