He had always thought maintaining a facade of a mother-son relationship with Sienna was enough, as long as they were aligned in their business interests.

But he hadn't realized that all these years, she had been waiting for a chance to ruin him, a way to vent her deep-seated resentment over her own daughter being sent away while her husband's illegitimate son was kept and raised in luxury.

"I'm sorry," Sienna sobbed, her voice small and suffocated.

"You can hate me, despise me, even retaliate against me. But Jillian is innocent. She knew nothing about this."

She pleaded softly.

Killian waited quietly for her to finish crying and gather herself. Then, he sat back down across from her and pulled a tissue from the box, handing it over.

Sienna looked up in surprise. After a moment of hesitation, she took it.

"It doesn't matter. I don't care. Besides, the person you looked down on back then was your own biological daughter."

Sienna froze. A suffocating wave of despair crashed over her, as if a knife had been twisted viciously into her gut. The realization brought agonizing pain.

"Killian..." she started to say.

He waved her off. "I told you I don't care about these things. Keep crying like this, and if Eleanor notices, I won't cover for you."

With that, he stood and walked away.

Approaching Eleanor, Killian pulled a lighter and a pack of cigarettes from his pocket.

With two sharp clicks, he flicked the lighter open and tilted his head to light a cigarette.

Eleanor complained, "Didn't you say you were quitting? The kids are around; it sets a terrible example."

Killian ignored her. He took a few deep drags, his cheeks hollowing out, exuding a dangerous, predatory edge.

"What's wrong? Are you in a bad mood?" she asked.

He shook his head, crushing the half-smoked cigarette into an ashtray. He turned and strode outside, exhaling a plume of white smoke that scattered in the wind.

Stepping out of the restaurant, he pulled his car door open, about to get in.

A burst of laughter caught his attention. He looked up to see Jillian, Daniel, and a stranger chatting and laughing together.

She was holding Stella's hand.

"Thank you for looking after Stella, Coach Zale," Jillian said with a smile.

"Not at all. Stella is highly talented. I've watched her competition footage before."

Coach Zale crouched down, giving Stella a few words of encouragement.

Stella nodded.
