"Have you ever considered that Connor is almost ten years old, has a smartphone, and goes online? If he sees all these scandalous rumors about you on the internet, how do you think he'll feel?"

"I already posted on The Social Feed to clear things up."

"A post claiming you're single. Are you single?"

Killian violently shoved her hand away. Caught off guard in her high heels, Jillian lost her balance and crashed hard against the edge of the office desk.

She let out a muffled groan, lifting her gaze to glare coldly at him. "Then how exactly should I explain this to the public? Should I tell them I'm already married with children? I have the courage to expose my past, Mr. Quincy, but do you have the guts to make my identity public?"

Killian raised an arrogant brow. "What do you think?"

"If you really want me to make things crystal clear, I'd be more than happy to write a long post exposing the entirety of our marriage. But when Quincy Tech's stock price takes a massive nosedive, don't you dare put the blame on me."

"Don't you dare."

Jillian let out a bitter scoff. It was exactly as she thought. Killian had absolutely no intention of making their marriage public.

Since that was the case, what was so wrong with her telling the world she was single?

"You can't have it both ways, Mr. Quincy. Me claiming to be single is exactly what's protecting your precious family secrets."

"By your logic, I should be thanking you?"

"Of course you should. In fact, you should be on your knees thanking me. Otherwise, the moment I reveal that I'm a married woman, the media will dig up your little romance with Sylvia Xavier, and the two of you will be branded as a pair of cheating scumbags by the entire world."

Killian's hand shot out, his fingers locking around Jillian's jaw in a punishing grip.

Trapped in his hold, she couldn't move or speak. All she could do was glare at him with burning resentment.

They stood mere inches apart, locked in a freezing standoff. Neither was willing to back down, as if they were destined to be enemies until the bitter end.

After a suffocating silence, Killian slowly released her.

Her jaw throbbed with a burning ache, and she angrily rubbed her skin to soothe the tension.

"Get out."
