"These were his strict orders. We're just following them," Mrs. Lewis replied before whisking the clothes away to be laundered and dried.
The staff prepared a lavish lunch, but Jillian only picked at her plate before retreating to the study to read, scroll through her phone, and take a brief nap.
By four-thirty, Mrs. Lewis and the driver were gearing up to pick Connor up from school. Having nothing better to do, Jillian decided to tag along.
At the school gates, she spotted Judith and Stella. The moment Connor saw his mother waiting for him, his face lit up with overwhelming pride and joy. Usually, Jillian only picked up Stella; it was rare for her to be there just for him.
"Mom, why didn't you come home last night? Grandma and I were so worried!" Stella ran over, her small face scrunched in concern.
"She stayed at my house last night," Connor chimed in triumphantly.
Stella looked completely bewildered as she gazed up at her mother.
Jillian nodded gently. "Yes, sweetheart. I stayed at Connor's house."
Stella's brows knitted together as she tugged anxiously at Jillian's hand. "Does that mean you stayed with his dad? He's so scary. Did he mean to you?"
Amused by her daughter's protective instinct, Jillian stroked her hair softly. "No, baby. No one was mean to me."
When it was time to part ways, Stella became incredibly clingy, dragging her feet and refusing to leave with Judith.
Seeing this, Connor quickly pitched an idea. "Why doesn't she come over to our house? She can hang out with me and Mom, and our driver can take her back later tonight."
"No," Jillian shot the idea down instantly.
While she wanted the kids to bond, Killian was notoriously cold, and his mere presence made the massive estate feel suffocating. Stella was already terrified of him, and Killian clearly wasn't a fan of the little girl, either.
Noticing his mother's resistance, Connor turned to Stella. "Don't you want to see my house? It's huge and awesome. You've never been there, right?"
