"I'm not going. You can ask whoever you want to take you."
Jillian Jarrett said.
Her voice was soft, and Connor Quincy kept his head down as if he hadn't heard her.
"By the way, Mom, have you sent that... mute girl away yet?"
Jillian knew exactly what he wanted to say but chose not to correct him.
"I'm taking her back tomorrow."
"Really?" Connor turned around, a bright glint in his eyes.
"Yes." Jillian nodded.
"Yes!" Connor cheered, suddenly dashing out of the art room.
Jillian quickly followed after him.
Connor ran to Killian Quincy's study and pounded on the door.
Killian opened it, and Connor threw himself into his arms.
"Dad, Mom is sending that mute girl away! Thank you, Dad!"
Jillian frowned, not understanding why he was thanking his father.
But it quickly dawned on her. Killian had stopped forcing the hospital to relocate—not just as a favor to Mallory Vaughn's father, but also for Connor's sake.
He didn't like Stella clinging to Jillian and wanted her sent back to the hospital as soon as possible.
So, Killian had shown mercy, ensuring Stella no longer had a reason to stay by Jillian's side.
It seemed that during her absence, the bond between Killian and Connor had deepened significantly.
Killian had always cared for Connor in the past, but only because Connor was his only child.
He had never actually taken care of him. His love had been distant, rarely translating into tangible actions.
Yet, through their recent time together, they had slowly developed a genuine, tender connection.
This was for the best. With a strong bond between father and son, Jillian could finally be at peace after the divorce.
Jillian turned and walked away.
That night, Jillian barely slept. It had been so long since she stayed in this bedroom that she found herself unable to get comfortable in the unfamiliar bed.
She tossed and turned, her mind heavy with thoughts of Stella.
Seeing her return, Stella looked up, her large eyes fixed on Jillian.
A wave of guilt washed over Jillian. "Stella, after breakfast, I'm going to take you back to the hospital, okay?"
Stella remained silent, lowering her head so that her long eyelashes hid whatever emotions lingered in her eyes.
Jillian didn't press the matter.
After breakfast, Judith left.
Grabbing her suitcase and holding Stella's hand, Jillian headed down to the parking garage.
She settled Stella into the car, loaded the suitcase into the trunk, and drove toward the hospital.
She had contacted Mallory Vaughn beforehand, and Mallory was already waiting for them.
About half an hour later, they arrived. A volunteer helped take the suitcase, and Jillian walked into the hospital, hand in hand with Stella.
The volunteer who used to care for the children came over to take Stella away.
Jillian crouched down in front of the little girl. "I'll come visit you often, okay?"
Stella didn't say a word, her large, dark eyes clearly reflecting Jillian's silhouette.
