“Enough!”
John’s voice cut sharply through the room. His voice was firm and commanding. The anger in his tone made everyone freeze.
Sia stopped mid-sentence, her chest rising heavily as she turned to face him.
“Father-” she tried to protest, her voice shaking with rage and pain.
“Leave the room,” John said coldly. His eyes hardened.” And I mean now.”
The authority in his voice left no room for argument.
Sia’s jaw tightened. She turned slowly, but before leaving, she shot Delphine one last burning glare—one filled with hatred and accusation.
Then she walked out, slamming the door shut behind her.
The silence that followed was heavy and uncomfortable.
John exhaled slowly and turned his attention back to Delphine. His voice softened, though the tiredness in it was clear.
“Delphine, I am sorry for what Sia said to you,” he said calmly. “She is hurting. We all are hurting.”Delphine lowered her head slightly, playing the role of the wounded woman perfectly.
” I understand,” she said softly. “I’m sorry too.”
John nodded once.
“But t will advise you,” he continued gently, “not to speak, about Isla again. Not in this house.”
“I understand completely,” Delphine replied. Her voice trembled just enough to sound sincere.
Carl squeezed her hand comfortingly.
“Don’t worry,” he said quietly. “Everything will be fine.”
Outwardly, his words were gentle and reassuring. But inside, Carl felt something else entirely…He was glad Sia had spoken the way she did.
Delphine’s words about Isla had been cruel. They were careless. Almpst mocking. It was as though she had spoken her deepest wish aloud without realizing it.
At that moment, Carl saw her clearly. Delphine was vicious. Just like her grandfather.
The realization settled deep in his chest. But his face remained calm. His role was not over yet.
Mia stood up slowly, breaking the silence. “Excuse me, Father. Mother,” she said quietly. I need to go check on Sia.”John nodded.
“That’s fine, Mia. You may go.” Mia gave a small nod and left the room.
Landon, however, remained seated.
He watched Carl and Delphine closely, his expression unreadable. There was no anger on his face, no excitement either-only deep thought.
After a moment, he spoke.
“So, what’s the plan?” he asked: “Have you chosen a date yet?”
Carl turned to Delphine. She was smiling brightly now, her fear completely gone. He smiled back and squeezed her hand gently.
“Not yet,” Carl replied. “But we should decide by the end of today.”
He looked at John.
“We just need your blessing.”
John studied them for a moment, then nodded.
“You have our blessing, my son,” he said. “And I believe I owe Delphine at least that much.”
Delphine’s face lit up instantly. Her heart pounded with excitement. Everything felt unreal. Was this really happening?
The Wyndham family had accepted her. John had given his blessing. Soon, she would be one of them.
She wanted to scream with joy. She thought about Sia.
The insult and the accusation. Delphine clenched her fists lightly. It was only a matter of time.
She would get rid of her.
She had not done anything to Isla. Fate had simply chosen to remove Isla from the picture and place Delphine where she belonged.
The universe had finally favored her. She smiled sweetly at Gladys. Gladys smiled back-but faintly.
Her heart was uneasy.
She was confused.
She had heard everything Sia said. The accusations. The anger. The bitterness. And yet, no one was explaining anything to her.
She could not pretend she didn’t hear those words.
Something was terribly wrong.
