Stanley remained trapped in a circle of eager elites.
Suddenly, a striking young woman pushed her way through the crowd and stopped right next to him.
Jocelyn Jennings furrowed her perfectly shaped brows, giving him a suspicious look. "What are you doing here? I thought you weren't coming."
Jocelyn was Stanley's cousin and also served as one of his executive assistants.
He had originally planned to skip the charity gala, but Mrs. Zoffany's influence couldn't be ignored.
Since flat-out rejecting the invitation would have been bad form, he sent Jocelyn in his place.
He had only planned to drop her off, but during that brief pause at the entrance, he spotted the mysterious woman who had vanished into thin air the night before.
Naturally, plans changed.
"Last-minute decision," Stanley replied casually, his eyes never leaving Queenie's direction.
"What are you staring at?"
Jocelyn followed his line of sight.
Realizing he was completely fixated on a beautiful woman, she instantly perked up.
Was the eternal bachelor finally showing interest?
Before she could say another word, Miles hurried back from his reconnaissance mission.
Miles looked like he was suffering from extreme physical distress.
Stanley turned away from the crowd, and Miles leaned in to whisper, "Boss, just drop it. It's never going to happen."
"I told you to find out her connection to Perry Xylon."
"You two are sworn enemies."
Stanley's brows knit together. "Excuse me?"
"She is Desmond Xylon's granddaughter. Perry's actual niece. Honestly, it's a miracle you two didn't go all the way, or that stubborn old fossil would be coming after you with a shotgun..."
Hearing that she was Desmond's granddaughter, a layer of frost settled over Stanley's handsome features.
