“If the surgery fails, or if there are serious aftereffects, how are you going to take responsibility for that risk?”

His question nearly made the doctors break down.

They were doctors, not gods. They could not promise anything about surgical risks.

“We’re sorry,” one of them said carefully. “We truly can’t predict the risks after surgery,

“How could that not be important?” Nydia snapped. “If it weren’t for that pill, Mom might not have even made it to the hospital!”

She was both frustrated and confused. What were these two thinking?
