The Heiress They Couldn't Break (Amelia and Jeremy) novel Chapter 632

Chapter 632 Turn Back

29 Finished

But that night, a restless unease crept under Josie’s skin, making her unusually alert to everything around

her.

Then she noticed several men dressed in black farther ahead and an ominous feeling rose in her chest.

She was certain they were after her.

Without thinking twice, she ran.

Her heels struck the polished stone path in a wild rhythm, echoing the frantic pounding of her heart.

She didn’t dare glance back and only rushed forward as the night wind whipped her hair, clearing part of the haze but failing to chase away the cold fear clinging to her.

Regret slammed into her hard, because if she had known this would happen, she would never have wandered around in a sentimental mood and insisted on taking the longer route home.

See, took what this leads to! Damn it, damn it!

Those men in black were obviously trained, and as they closed in on Josie, panic seized her and she screamed at the top of her lungs.

“Ahhh! Help! They’re going to kill me!

‘Help! Who are you people? Why are you chasing me?”

Just as despair overwhelmed her and she thought she would be dragged off or worse tonight, a familiar figure suddenly appeared.

It was the same man who had already left earlier, Harrison.

She had no idea where he came from, as if he had materialized out of thin air.

The second he showed up, he acted without hesitation, kicking the thugs lunging toward Josie away and pulling her behind him to shield her.

“Why are you back?” Josie asked in shock.

“I’ll explain later. Let’s handle this first.”

Harrison didn’t have time for explanations and focused entirely on the men rushing at them.

Those men were clearly targeting Josie, but his sudden interference threw off their plan.

They didn’t stay to fight and quickly retreated.

Josie stayed behind Harrison, trembling, watching the black-clad figures disappear around the dark corner as her heart continued to race.

Only when she was sure they were truly gone did all the strength leave her body, her knees giving out as

she nearly collapsed.

Harrison reacted quickly and caught her by the waist, holding her upright.

“Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

His voice carried urgency as he bent closer to examine her carefully.

His eyes swept over her hair, messy from running, and the tender spot on her ankle rubbed raw by her shoe.

Josie shook her head and took deep breaths as the fear slowly faded, relief crashing over her and tears spilling from her eyes without warning.

She sniffed, her voice shaky and full of grievance. “I-I’m fine.. I was just terrified… Why were they trying to grab me?”

She couldn’t understand it. She was just an ordinary girl, maybe a little too enthusiastic, but she always played by the rules.

She hadn’t offended anyone, so why would a bunch of hostile men be chasing her?

Harrison frowned and stared in the direction they had fled, his eyes dark and unreadable.

He stayed silent for a moment, then turned back and softened his voice. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here. They won’t dare return.”

At first, Josie felt he must know something, because otherwise he wouldn’t have arrived so quickly.

But hearing him speak to her like that made her soften completely, and she forgot about her doubts.

“Okay, okay. I need you here. Otherwise I might not survive!”

She clung to his arm and whined, “I’m really, really scared!”

Harrison was dumbfounded.

Give this woman an opening, and she would run wild with it.

This time, though, he didn’t push her away or tell her to go home alone, deciding instead to walk her all the way and leave only after she was safely inside.

“Why did you suddenly come back?” Josie asked once more.

“Then why did you take the long route?” He meant she could have reached home in just a few steps.

“Uh, I wanted to clear my head, so I walked around.”

“It’s late, and you’re clearing your head at this hour? Choose another time, alright? Don’t assume it’s always safe out there.”

“Okay. I understand.”
