Chapter 651 The Swap

“Dr. Nygard, are you saying that Sabrina has been hurting me?”

The thought was so awful that it made Nydia’s stomach turn. Families don’t do that to each other. But she’d nearly died at Sabrina’s hands not long ago, and there was no way to explain that away.

“Mmm.” Amelia kept her voice level. “Those pills are a problem. They won’t kill you or make you collapse overnight. They’ll just speed up your decline.”

The implications of aging too fast were clear. Nydia went pale. Amelia’s words sank into her already churning mind, sending ripples crashing wider.

“Could it be her mentor?” she asked quickly. “She said the medicine came from PharmaCore 01. Maybe the issue is with whoever provided it.”

She didn’t want to suspect Sabrina. Not her. They’d been close since Sabrina was young, and Nydia had always been close to Paul’s family, too. After Paul died, she fell apart. It took her a long time to recover from that grief.

She’d raised Sabrina and Floyd as if they were her own children. If the people she loved like that were smiling at her while plotting to hurt her, she didn’t know if she could handle it. If it was true, she could feel herself teetering toward the edge again.

“I can’t rule out someone using her,” Amelia said. “And I can’t rule out that it’s her.”

Amelia had never been soft on people who tried to harm her, and she wasn’t about to let Nydia

remain naive.

“Nydia,” she added. “Don’t you think Sabrina’s been strange? Sometimes the person closest to you isn’t the same person you started with. Floyd and Cora say the same thing. They keep saying Ms. Jordan feels like a different person, like she’s been swapped out.”

Swapped out?

That one line hit Nydia like a slap. All the little moments that had felt wrong and the unease she’d tried to ignore suddenly snapped into place.

“Amelia,” she said, swallowing hard, “you just reminded me of a lot. I’ll get to the bottom of it,”

“You should,” Amelia said. “But you also need to take your body seriously. I’ll write you a new prescription that actually fits your condition.”

Her tone stayed light and almost casual. “You’ll improve quickly. Your ovarian function and egg quality-all of it.”

To Nydia, that single sentence landed like a boulder in deep water.

Hope exploded through her, violent and bright.

“You’ve got a real chance at having a baby,” Amelia said, steady as ever. “Same as anyone else. Don’t worry.”

If it didn’t work, Amelia thought, she’d treat Nydia until it did. Once her body was back on track, putting together a proper fertility plan would be easy.

“That’s… that’s wonderful.” Nydia’s eyes flooded. She grabbed Amelia’s hand as if she were afraid to lose her. “Amelia, you’re a blessing to the Jordans.”

This girl had saved Cora’s life. She’d helped Floyd figure out what no one else could. Now, she had given Nydia something she hadn’t dared to want again.

Whether or not it worked, Nydia had already made up her mind. She was going to make Amelia her goddaughter.

It didn’t matter if Amelia resisted. If Amelia didn’t want it, Nydia would wear her down until she did.

Not now, though. Not yet. First, she’d deal with Sabrina, and then she’d sit Amelia down and tell her.

The moment Sabrina’s name crossed her mind again, Nydia’s eyes cooled.

After dinner with Floyd, she finally let Amelia leave.

The second Amelia was gone, Nydia pulled out her phone and scrolled to a number she hadn’t called in a long time. She hesitated, then pressed dial.

When the call connected, her voice turned hard. “It’s me. I need you to look into someone. My niece, Sabrina Jordan. I want everything from the last six months: I want all her

communications, everywhere she’s been, anything unusual, and everyone she’s been in contact with. Be as detailed as you can. As detailed as you can get.”

She ended the call and drew a slow breath.

From that moment on, things would never be the same. She couldn’t afford to not count the cost anymore.

Meanwhile, Jeremy’s car waited outside the Jordan estate. The moment Amelia stepped out, Jeremy got out to open the door for her.

The warmth of the cabin hit her, and she leaned back, closed her eyes, and let out a long
