Especially Walter, whose face went deathly pale. His body swayed as he nearly lost his footing.
Amelia quickly reached out to steady him.
Seeing that, Truman's lips curled into a twisted smile, as if he'd just witnessed something deeply entertaining, and he continued in a taunting tone:
"What's wrong? Too angry to stand? Weren't you always the righteous one, leading us in the name of truth?
"Take a good look now. Your so-called brothers, your right-hand men—I personally sent them to their graves! That team spirit you're so proud of? Worthless in front of me! Hahaha…"
He laughed wildly, the sound echoing harshly through the solemn interrogation room, sharp and chilling.
Walter didn't speak again, nor did he show any extreme reaction.
Because he knew there was no point. Nothing he said could undo a man's obsession.
Soon, Truman, Esmond, and all their accomplices were escorted away by the police.
Only Amelia, Jeremy, and Walter remained.
"Amelia, you are never pulling something like that again! It worked this time, but what if it hadn't?"
After everyone else had left, Jeremy couldn't hold back and sternly reprimanded his future wife.
It was the first time he had ever spoken to her so seriously.
Yes, they had discussed setting a long line to catch a big fish and deliberately luring the snake out of its hole.
But nowhere in that discussion had it included her risking herself as bait!
This time it succeeded, and everything ended well.
But what if?
What if it had failed? She could have lost her life.
The more Jeremy thought about it, the more panic crept into his chest. A thin layer of cold sweat dampened his back, and his grip on Amelia's arm tightened unconsciously, his knuckles turning pale.
He didn't even dare to imagine that "what if" becoming reality—if anything had truly happened to Amelia, what would he have done?
He simply could not survive that kind of loss.
"I'm sorry. I promise there won't be a next time."
Amelia put on a meek, apologetic expression and even traced her fingertip lightly across his palm in a small, placating gesture.
She knew very well how dangerous the operation had been. One wrong step, and the whole plan would have collapsed.
But chances like that were rare, and she couldn't bring herself to let it slip away.
She wanted to expose their crimes, avenge her father, and make sure no more innocent people were hurt.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Heiress They Couldn't Break (Amelia and Jeremy)
I'm starting not to like Josie's character. If any man did all the things she's doing, they'd be considered creepy. This version of Josie is giving me the ick....
Does the novel ends in chapter 716 or is it still ongoing?...
Absolutely beautiful!...
Oh my! I really like Whitney (Jeremy's mum). She's so down to earth. She didn't even acknowledge Sabrina's presence....
I don't know what's with this new writer, but they are only making things worse. Gianna does in fact know how to ride a horse. She's had lessons and she even had a race with Amelia where she threw nails on the track to cheat. Gianna fell in the mud and was embarrassed when they pulled the cameras at a riding club owned by Jeremy....
Why did Cloudspire Estate change from a house to an apartment? Why is the writer acting like Jeremy does not own the property and he is not the one that allowed Amelia stay there? I hate when the writer does not remember what they wrote....
This is chapter 51 again when it should be chapter 52. Please fix for future readers....
New chapters please. If Amelia doesn’t end up with Jeremy I’m going to cry...
