Truman looked utterly defeated. His face was ashen, with none of the smug confidence he'd worn at the beginning left in him.
"Truman, you bastard! You've ruined me! I got dragged into this because of you!"
At that moment, Esmond turned on him without hesitation and hurriedly said to the officers holding him, "I was forced into it! I can turn state's evidence! I know a lot about the shady things he's done behind the scenes—I'm innocent!"
"Yeah? Save it for the station."
One of the officers snapped cuffs onto his wrists, clearly used to people flipping sides the second they got caught.
As for his subordinate biting back at him, Truman barely reacted.
When disaster strikes, everyone looks out for themselves—he understood that better than anyone.
So there was nothing to be angry about.
If anything, he could only blame himself for one wrong move that led to his capture.
Just as they were about to escort him away, a familiar face appeared in front of him.
Walter.
The sight of him stirred more emotion in Truman than anything else so far.
"What are you doing here? Come to watch the show? To see me finally lose to you?"
"No. I just found out about this myself." Walter's expression was blank.
He'd only learned about it moments ago and rushed over as fast as he could.
Amelia hadn't told him about the entire setup, probably because she didn't want him dragged into danger—or hurt more than necessary.
Now that he knew the truth, he was shaken to the core, and more than anything, deeply heartbroken.
"Why would you do this? We worked so well together in the lab. We were like brothers for all those years."
Not just that—whenever he and Amelia argued or couldn't see eye to eye, Truman had always stepped in as the mediator.
The three of them rarely fought or fell out.
So why had he chosen a road with no return?
"Brothers? You were always one step ahead of me. I could never beat you at anything. In every project we completed together, you were the one who benefited the most.
"In this position, I was doomed to be your assistant forever. Your shadow. And you still have the nerve to dress it up so nicely."
A layer of red crept into Walter's clouded eyes. He stepped forward as if to pat Truman on the shoulder, but Truman violently shrugged him off.
"A shadow? One step ahead of you?" Walter's voice trembled despite himself.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Heiress They Couldn't Break (Amelia and Jeremy)
I'm starting not to like Josie's character. If any man did all the things she's doing, they'd be considered creepy. This version of Josie is giving me the ick....
Does the novel ends in chapter 716 or is it still ongoing?...
Absolutely beautiful!...
Oh my! I really like Whitney (Jeremy's mum). She's so down to earth. She didn't even acknowledge Sabrina's presence....
I don't know what's with this new writer, but they are only making things worse. Gianna does in fact know how to ride a horse. She's had lessons and she even had a race with Amelia where she threw nails on the track to cheat. Gianna fell in the mud and was embarrassed when they pulled the cameras at a riding club owned by Jeremy....
Why did Cloudspire Estate change from a house to an apartment? Why is the writer acting like Jeremy does not own the property and he is not the one that allowed Amelia stay there? I hate when the writer does not remember what they wrote....
This is chapter 51 again when it should be chapter 52. Please fix for future readers....
New chapters please. If Amelia doesn’t end up with Jeremy I’m going to cry...
