Chapter 246
CHARLOTTE-
Callum knocked like he wanted to harm something.
I stood slightly in front of him, just in case I needed to put space between him and Luca.
I knew how he got when he was pissed. I had seen it once when a boy in school put a hand on my waist and called it a joke. Callum did not do jokes when it came to me.
“Please,” I said. “Just drop this. It isn’t a big deal. We had a small fight.”
He did not look at me.
“Charlotte. Move.”
“Callum. Listen to me-”
“I am listening, but I am not blind. You were crying. His parents called me. He has some explaining to do since you won’t tell me what the hell is going on.”
I grabbed his sleeve again.
“Please. Drop it.”
He shook me off without being cruel about it.
Marco was tense behind me.
I hoped he could keep both of them calm when the door opened.
Then it did, and the hallway went quiet.
Luca was standing right there.
I noticed it immediately.
He did not look like himself.
He looked defeated.
Broken.
Like he had already lost something and was only opening the door to confirm it.
His eyes went to me first.
Then to Marco.
Then to Callum.
Something shifted in his face when it landed on his brother. Cold. Distant. As if he had already written a story I did not know about.

The Hockey Captain’s Unwanted Wife
“What is this about?”
Tum did not waste a second.
“Answer me one question,” he growled. “Have you been messing around with my baby sister?”
Luca looked at me.
At Marco again.
Back to my brother.
His jaw clenched.
“Yes.”
Why would he agree to it so easily?
Was he insane?
No one had time to react.
Callum punched him in the face.
I screamed.
Luca’s head snapped to the side. He hit the doorframe. He did not lift his hands to protect himself.
I grabbed Callum’s arm. “Stop-stop-”
All hell broke loose.
Callum went for him again. I tried to get in the way. Marco surged forward, swearing, getting an arm around my brother’s chest.
Luca still was not fighting back.
That terrified me more than my brother going in for another hit.
“Callum, stop!” My voice broke. “Please-”
Marco hauled him back two steps. Three. Callum strained against him, breathing hard.
“Get off me-”
“Enough,” Marco snapped. “You made your point. At least find out what’s going on before you break my brother’s nose.”
Everyone was breathing hard.
Luca straightened slowly.
Blood at the corner of his mouth.
The Hockey Captain’s Unwanted Wite
He did not look at Callum when he spoke.
Tooked at a point past all of us.
“It isn’t going to happen again,” he said. “You don’t have to worry about me touching Charlotte. That’s never happening. I crossed a line I shouldn’t have. I know that. I am done with it.”
For a few seconds I could not move.
The shock of it went through me like ice.
My heart broke in the doorway.
“Luca-“I could not even recognize my voice.
He still would not look at me.
Not properly.
Like looking at me would make the promise harder to keep.
Heartless was the word that came, even though I knew him better than that.
It still felt heartless.
He had not asked me.
He had not fought.
He had just given me away to my brother like I was a mistake he could correct out loud.
Callum shook Marco off and pointed at him.
“You hear that? He admitted it. You never should have touched her to begin with. All those girls you’ve slept with and you still couldn’t keep your dirty hands off my sister?”
I felt sick.
He had just made a promise to my brother that he would never touch me again.
Marco’s face was tight. He knew. He knew this was not a small fight.
,”Luca,” Marco said, low. “Think about what you’re saying.”
“I know what I’m saying.”
Still flat.
Still not looking at me.
I stood in the doorway with my brother’s anger on one side and Luca’s surrender on the other, and I understood.
My best friend was letting go of me.

My chest felt tight. Squeezing painfully.
hun.
Never again.
I wanted to scream that he did not get to decide that on his own. That he should have spoken to me first.
That I had not asked him to erase us in front of Callum like it would make the photos and the fight and everything else okay.
I could not breathe.
“Say that to me,” I whispered. “Not to him.”
Luca’s throat moved.
He still did not look.
“It’s done,” he said without any emotion. My heart broke again. Shattered.
Callum took my arm.
“We’re leaving.”
“No.” I gasped.
“Charlotte.”
