The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 200

Time slipped by, each second marked by Aaron’s frantic heartbeat.

He let his eyelids fall, heavy and tired.

If J were around, he’d have picked up on the signal in a heartbeat and found him already. Jay, honestly, was hopeless, still hadn’t figured it out…

Out of nowhere, there was a loud bang. Someone kicked the cabin door wide open from the outside.

Through the hazy light, a tall figure appeared, backlit and impossible to miss.

Aaron’s mind went blank for a split second. *Oh man… J…?*

The figure moved with lightning speed, spinning and kicking, knocking out the black-clad guard charging toward him.

Finally, Aaron saw the intruder’s face clearly. It was Jay—genuine, clueless Jay. Not J.

Jay walked over and crouched right in front of him, his face unreadable. As soon as he caught the scent of blood, his expression shifted. He placed a steady hand over Aaron’s wound, fingers firm and sure, then lifted his gaze to Aaron’s pale, bloodless face.

“How long ago?” he asked, dialing his phone without missing a beat.

Aaron realized Jay wasn’t even asking what happened. He jumped straight to when it happened. For some reason, this made Aaron feel that maybe Jay wasn’t as useless as he’d thought. Maybe he could actually count on him.

That weird sense of trust made him calm down fast. In a single breath, he explained, “About three minutes after we boarded. Petty left for the bathroom and never came back. Someone jumped me outside.”

Jay relayed the whole thing to Franco on his phone.

When the call ended, he yanked Aaron’s shirt open to check the wound. No gunshots—shooting on a ship would’ve been a disaster—just a deep gash from a blade.

The clamor of approaching footsteps echoed outside the cabin.

Jay’s ears perked up. He stood and gave the top of Aaron’s head a quick, almost brotherly smack. “Hold tight.”

He shut the door behind him.

Right away, the sounds of a brawl broke out. Fists meeting flesh, violent grunts, screams of pain—but none of them belonged to Jay.

Aaron’s skin prickled with goosebumps.

That head pat replayed in his mind. Seriously, who the hell was this Jay guy, anyway?
