Chapter 149
“Can I go with you?” Arthur asked.
“No,” the High Priest replied without hesitation.
He took Lexie from Arthur’s arms, his refusal firm and without a second thought.

After he finished speaking, the High Priest shot a glance at the beastmen outside the treatment room, their eyes wild and minds lost. Then, with just a turn, he was gone in a flash.
Seeing Lexie being taken away by the High Priest of the Snow Wolf Clan, Arthur immediately rushed after him without thinking.
But he was too late, the High Priest had already vanished.
The moment Lexie was taken away, the thick, sweet scent that had been hanging over Merman Island vanished instantly, as if some invisible force had just snatched it away.
With the scent gone, the beastmen who’d been driven mad by it slowly came back to themselves.
They froze, glancing around in confusion at the people nearby, having no idea what had just gone down.
Seeing the beastmen snap out of it, Austin, Nelson, and the rest of the crew all breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Ignoring their own wounds, they hurried back toward the treatment room.
But when Austin pushed open the door and saw only Arthur standing there, everyone froze in place.
“Arthur, where’s Lexie? Where is she?” Austin demanded, his voice urgent.
“She’s gone. The High Priest from the Snow Wolf Clan took her away,” Arthur said, his words heavy with regret.
Arthur looked down at his empty hands, feeling a wave of helplessness wash over him. His voice was bleak.
“What? How could you let the High Priest of the Snow Wolf Clan take her away? She just gave birth to the mer eggs, she’s totally worn out right now! How could you let him take Lexie?” Austin snapped, his voice sharp with anger.
“What if something happens to her? Could you even handle that? Don’t you get it? Lexie means everything to us!” Austin pressed, his tone full of frustration.
Arthur ran his fingers through his hair, clearly frustrated. Not caring how he looked, he just plopped down on the steps, feeling totally drained. He glanced up at Austin, his voice heavy.
“What was I supposed to do, stop the High Priest from taking Lexie? How? The way off Merfolk Island is locked down for
some reason, we’re stuck here.
“You saw it yourself, everyone just lost it, rushing in here like maniacs.
‘And whenever Kaelen, Cristia, or Gary got hurt, somehow all their wounds ended up transferring to Lexie.
“Those were deadly injuries. If I hadn’t been working nonstop to heal her wounds, she would have died from blood loss right on the spot.
“And besides, you and Nelson stood no chance against that many beastmen.

“They’re your men, and some of them are just innocent people. There’s no way you could have killed them, but they were out of their minds, they didn’t care who you were, just kept rushing in like maniacs.
“If they’d managed to break into the treatment room, honestly, whether I lived or died doesn’t even matter. Do you really think Lexie would have survived?
“She wouldn’t have.
“I didn’t want her to leave either, but my hands were tied.
“But when it comes down to life or death, I’d rather see her alive than gone.
“So letting the High Priest take her away was the only thing I could do. I trust him, with him around, I know Lexie will be
safe.
“Honestly, for the sake of the Snow Wolf Clan, no matter how high and mighty the High Priest acts, he wouldn’t dare mess with Lexie.
“If he ever hurt her, he’d have every beastman in the Aetherion Interstellar Zone out for his blood,” Arthur said.
‘But…‘ Austin muttered, clearly wanting to say more but holding back.
Arthur cut him off, his voice low and firm.
“No ‘but. The High Priest promised me, he won’t lay a finger on Lexie. And if she ever wants to come back, she can. He won’t stop her.
“Once Lexie’s head is clear and she’s physically recovered, I’m sure she’ll come back as soon as she can,” Arthur said, hope flickering in his eyes.
“Is that so?” Austin muttered, his voice barely above a whisper.
He looked at Arthur, saw the exhaustion in his bloodshot eyes, then turned to stare at the chaos outside the treatment room. For a moment, he was at a loss for words.
Feeling completely drained, he slumped down to the floor, gasping for breath.
‘How did it end up like this?‘ Austin thought, unable to wrap his head around it. ‘We had more than enough guards on duty, everything was supposed to be under control.
‘But then that damn scent hit, and suddenly all our guards just snapped and went after Lexie, why?
‘And the craziest part, Kaelen, Cristia, and Gary swore their mer pearl and fox beads were only supposed to take away Lexie’s pain, not transfer their injuries to her.
‘But just now, when they got hurt, every single injury somehow landed on Lex instead.
‘Kaelen, Cristia, and Gary were just as clueless. Hell, even me and Arthur were totally battled.
‘Seriously, what the hell is going on here? Why is everything falling apart like this?‘ Austin thought, his mind a mess of frustration and disbelief.
Just as Austin, Nelson, Arthur, and the rest slumped by the treatment room door, totally wiped out, the three mer eggs destined for the deep sea instantly became the center of attention.
Anyone who knew the first thing about merfolk could tell, those eggs were baby merfolk, the next generation of the clan.
