The Last True Female (Lexie) (by Sylvia Vance) novel Chapter 148

As Arthur placed Lexie in the treatment pod, everyone was on edge. When the three mer eggs were born without a hitch, Kaelen wasted no time grabbing the eggs and heading out.

He had no other option. As soon as the eggs were born, he had to hand them over to his clan so they could hatch them in the deep sea.

If those mer eggs stayed on land for too long, there was no doubt disaster would strike.

After giving his instructions, just as Kaelen was handing the mer eggs over to his clan to take them to the deep sea, a rich, intoxicating scent suddenly emanated from Lexie, who had just finished her surgery.

The fragrance was so intense that it seeped through the treatment pod and the tightly secured isolation room, flooding out into the treatment area and, in no time, spreading like wildfire all the way beyond the Merfolk Island.

This heady aroma was like a siren’s call, deadly and irresistible. Any beastman who caught a whiff, whether lurking outside the Merfolk Island or stationed there by Austin and Kaelen, was instantly affected.

In that instant, they seemed to lose all sense of reason, forgetting who they were and what they were supposed to be doing.

They became like wild beasts, driven purely by instinct as they charged straight for the treatment room where Lexie was.

When Austin, Nelson, Cristia, Gary, and Kaelen saw what was happening, they were totally floored.

Never mind the beastmen who were already trying to break into the Merfolk Island, the guards posted in the sea and on the island went totally berserk the moment that scent hit them.

Instead of holding back the intruders, they spun around and went after Austin, Nelson, and the rest of the crew.

Faced with this chaos, Austin, Nelson, Cristia, and the others struggled to resist the overwhelming pull of that scent, forcing themselves to jump into action and physically block anyone trying to break into the treatment room.

As for Arthur, he had to act fast and get Lexie out through the spatial tunnel before things got any worse.

It didn’t matter where he took her, just as long as it wasn’t here.

As long as he could get Lexie out of here safely, she’d be safe.

But when Arthur tried to carry the unconscious Lexie off the Merfolk Island, he discovered that every spatial tunnel he’d set up had malfunctioned, he was completely cut off, unable to escape with her.

And it got even worse, not only were Arthur and Lexie trapped, but beastmen from outside the island started pouring in through the other spatial tunnels, flooding into the place in a chaotic wave.

As more and more intruders flooded onto the Merfolk Island, even Austin, Nelson, and the others, no matter how strong they were, couldn’t hold back wave after wave of attackers.

What made it even worse was that some of these intruders were their own men, their most loyal subordinates.

If they weren’t loyal, Austin and Nelson never would’ve put them on the Merfolk Island to protect Lexie.

Seeing their own men like this, Austin and Nelson just couldn’t bring themselves to kill them.

If they ended up killing their most loyal subordinates today, they’d regret it for the rest of their lives.

Watching their own subordinates lose all reason under the pull of that scent, even Nelson, Austin, and the rest, no matter how powerful they were, couldn’t escape getting hurt in this desperate situation where they were forced to play defense, unable to fight back.

Kaelen especially had been relying on the mer pearl to protect Lexie from harm for five whole months.

With his body already pushed past its limits, and both the mer eggs and Lexie weighing heavy on his mind, there was no way Kaelen could avoid getting injured.

What really blew Kaelen’s mind was that, somehow, his own wounds were actually showing up on Lexie, who was still out cold, all because of the mer pearl.

Kaelen was left speechless, but Arthur, who’d been standing guard in the treatment room, looked like he’d just seen a ghost.

Hadn’t Kaelen said the mer pearl only worked one way, taking Lexie’s injuries onto himself, not passing his own wounds to her?

What the hell was happening?Kaelen thought, panic rising. Why were his injuries suddenly appearing on Lexie?

It wasn’t just Kaelen, even Cristia and Gary, after getting injured, saw their wounds magically transferred to Lexie, who was still unconscious, all because of their fox beads.

As Lexie’s body kept piling up with more and more injuries, Arthur was practically losing it.

Kaelen, Cristia, Gary, why are your wounds showing up on Lexie?Arthur yelled, his voice cracking with panic.

All three of you, get back! No more injuries! If you keep getting hurt, Lexie won’t make it!

At Arthur’s furious shout, Kaelen, Cristia, and Gary immediately backed off, doing their best not to get hurt again.

But with Kaelen, Cristia, and Gary forced to fall back, it was just Austin and Nelson left standing, and there was no way the two of them could take on that many beastmen alone.

The beastmen surged in like a flood, wave after wave, overwhelming them no matter how hard they tried to push back.

In the end, with Lexie’s safety hanging by a thread, just as Austin and Nelson were about to make the agonizing decision to cut down their own men, Arthur stood frozen in the treatment room.

Arthur stared at the intruder who had materialized out of thin air. And there was a metal mask hiding his face. Arthur’s eyes were wide with shock, but beneath that, there was something deeper, stunned awe.

Whatwho are you?Arthur stammered, his voice shaking as panic gripped him.

The beastman standing before him looked like the Beast God had just walked into the room, but his voice was unexpectedly calm.

I’m the High Priest of the Snow Wolf clan. Arthur, give me the female. If you don’t, none of you are getting out of here

alive.

That includes her,the beastman with a metal mask said.

Arthur’s heart ached as the High Priest singled out Lexie. Every fiber of his being resisted handing her over,

But with beastmen flooding in behind him like a tidal wave, he knew Austin and Nelson were barely hanging on.

If this went on, it would end in mutual destruction, no one would make it out alive.
