Chapter 175
“I understand, High Priest. I won’t dare to do it again,” Kaelis said.

“Good. Now, dispose of these two bodies. Make sure everyone in the Snow Wolf Clan wears their masks. We can’t afford any more incidents.
“Oh, and give Lex and that fox a mask too. Just say it’s a special Snow Wolf Clan mask for warding off evil spirits,” the High Priest said.
“But do you really think Lex and that flirty fox Gary will buy it?” Kaelis asked.
“Lex is obedient, she’ll go along with it. Even if she doesn’t believe it, those filthy things underground can’t lay a finger on her,” the High Priest replied.
“As for that Nine–Tailed Fox…
“If he doesn’t believe it and ends up dead, that’s his problem,” the High Priest said coldly.
Kaelis was left speechless by the High Priest’s words.
Whatever. That annoying fox Gary can drop dead for all I care. If he’s gone, that’s one less headache for me,’ Kaelis thought.
But when Kaelis handed the mask to Gary, he didn’t ask a thing, just slipped it on his face like it was nothing.
“Gary, don’t you even want to know why I’m handing you this mask?” Kaelis asked.
“Must be something huge going on with your Snow Wolf Clan, something you guys can’t deal with, so you’re handing me a mask, Gary replied.
After Gary put on the mask, his voice was more serious than ever before.
“How do you know?” Kaelis asked.
“How do I know? Hmph!” Gary scoffed.
He couldn’t help but chuckle softly, then said in a low, serious tone.
“I knew something was off the moment I walked out of Lex’s room this morning,” Gary said.
“Normally, your Snow Wolf Clan guards are super laid–back during night watch. Whenever they see me, it’s always that bored, almost contemptuous look, sizing me up like I’m beneath them.
“But today? Every beastman in your clan was acting like the enemy was at the gates, faces all serious, eyes sharp, not even sparing me those usual looks.
“If something major hadn’t happened, why would your whole clan suddenly flip like that?” Gary finished.
Kaelis cast Gary a curious look.
He was used to seeing Gary act like a total slacker, never taking anything seriously, but now, just from a few quick observations, he could tell something serious had happened with the Snow Wolf Clan
‘No wonder he was able to dethrone my brother as clan leader. He might joke around most of the time, but when trouble hits, nobody’s more serious than him, Kaelis thought.

Chapter 175
‘Guess I’ve really been selling him short, Kaelis thought.
Kaelis placed a firm hand on Gary’s shoulder, speaking in a low, serious tone.

‘Gary, things haven’t been peaceful in the Snow Wolf Clan lately. If you value your life, you’d better keep that mask on wherever you go,” Kaelis said.
Things are getting dangerous, huh? So does that mean I can just take Lex and get out of here?” Gary asked.
No,” Kaelis replied.
Why not? Back then, Dr. Cole only agreed to let your High Priest bring Lex to the Snow Wolf Clan because things were eriously dangerous at the time.
And second, your High Priest is a real powerhouse, with him around, I figured he could keep Lex safe.
But now, it looks like your clan’s got its hands full just trying to keep itself together.
So why not let me take Lex back to the Nine–Tailed Fox Clan?” Gary pressed.
No. The High Priest said Lex can’t leave the Snow Wolf Clan right now. Whatever trouble we’re in, it won’t touch her,” Kaelis eplied.
Oh, really?” Gary said.
Gary took a step closer, staring Kaelis straight in the eyes, his tone dead serious.
Kaelis, I’m dying to know, what the hell happened to your Snow Wolf Clan to make you all this nervous?
You guys are all so on edge, but you still won’t let Lex leave with me. What, are you trying to get something out of her or what?” Gary challenged.
Or maybe you found out who she really is, and that’s why you want to keep her around?” Gary pressed.
Kaelis’s eyes narrowed at Gary’s probing words. He shot Gary a cold, steely look.
Gary, did you find out something?” Kaelis asked, his voice chilling.
Yeah, I know a thing or two. For starters, I know who Lex really is,” Gary replied.
As soon as Gary said that, Kaelis’s hand morphed into a razor–sharp claw in a flash.
It looked like one swipe and Gary’s neck would be history.
But Gary didn’t bat an eye. He sprawled out in the chair, arms hanging loose over the back, looking totally unconcerned as he teased Kaelis in that lazy drawl of his.
“Kaelis, relax. Your High Priest hasn’t put a hit out on me yet, so don’t get ahead of yourself,
“If you take out the wrong guy, you might just throw a wrench in your High Priest’s whole plan, Gary said.
Kaelis fixed Gary with an icy glare. When he saw Gary wasn’t fazed at all, he finally spoke, his tone low and full of suspicion,
“Gary, just how did you figure out who Lex really is?” Kaelis demanded.
